Heather Ferrier

Heather Ferrier

14 Sept 2025 - 14 Sept 2025

Heather Ferrier completely charmed a packed Bridgwater Hall in Manchester for the opening ceremony of the 30th annual WOMEX in October 2024, with her disarming personality and virtuoso playing of the accordion, but when she put down the accordion and, without any music, gave a skilful exhibition of north of England clog dancing, the concert hall erupted. With captivating musicianship and a sound that is unapologetically her own, Heather Ferrier is a force to be reckoned with. An, "engaging talker and magnetic performer" (NARC magazine), the Stockport-born accordionist, clog dancer and composer is changing the perceptions of alt-folk and the accordion as an instrument, all on her own terms. Her latest EP 'Engine for the Sound' creates music that sets the accordion free from its stereotypes and, with an extended lineup of musicians, expresses everything Heather stands for, using powerful melodies and jazz-influenced harmony. Bold, passionate and enthralling, the EP has been played on BBC Radio 6 music, well as being favourably reviewed in local and national publications. Heather also performs as the Heather Ferrier Trio with guitarist Alasdair Paul and drummer Adam Stapleford. On stage, the trio's sound is an explosion of groove and melody that embellishes Heather's signature alt-folk style. Their combined medley of influences and genre-bending collaborations transcends the limits of contemporary instrumental folk music, employing Heather's distinct compositional style to create a show with both emotive and upbeat moments.

Matt Sayers Nestled in the embrace of indie folk, Matt Sayers, a singer-songwriter from the West Midlands with a penchant for heartfelt storytelling, draws inspiration from the revered Laurel Canyon troubadours of the 70s - think Jackson Browne and Joni Mitchell. In the contemporary tapestry of his sound, echoes of Gregory Alan Isakov, Noah Gundersen, and the Milk Carton Kids find a home. Matt's lyrical wanderings often lead to introspective destinations. Tracks like Dancing Girl grapple with the weight of mortality, while Jericho speaks to the universal search for a place to call home. His melodies carry a delicate balance, blending the old-world charm of Laurel Canyon with a modern touch that resonates with today's listeners. Matt invites you to join him on a journey of self-discovery, with each song being a mirror reflecting the shared emotions and experiences that bind us all. In the gentle strumming of his guitar and the warmth of his voice, Matt finds a timeless connection that speaks to the heart. There's an honesty imbued into his performance that immediately makes you believe every word of it. (UpToHearMusic). Profoundly poetic whilst charmingly matter of fact. (Brum Radio).

Donald WG Lindsay & Alasdair Roberts

Donald WG Lindsay & Alasdair Roberts

30 Oct 2025 - 30 Oct 2025

Scottish musicians Donald WG Lindsay and Alasdair Roberts have been friends for thirty years, since their teenage days. In these three decades, their careers in music have taken them down differing yet similarly unorthodox paths, and theyve continued to make a lot of music together, usually informally. Theyve only rarely appeared together in concert, but in autumn 2024 they will remedy this state of affairs with their first duo tour. Donald WG Lindsay is best known as the creator of the Lindsay System three-octave keyless chanter for the Scottish smallpipes, as played by him on the critically acclaimed album History of Sleep recorded in collaboration with Glasgow experimental legend Richard Youngs. Donald is a former convenor of the Lowland and Border Pipers Society, with which he has a long association. Although a traditional singer since his teens, Donald has rarely ventured onto the stage as a vocalist, although he has recorded sporadically. In late 2020 he received airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music from Iggy Pop, who described his music as beautifully played the whole record is really good. Alasdair Roberts is primarily known as a singer, guitarist, writer of songs and interpreter of traditional songs from Scotland and beyond. Since the nineties he has released several albums, mostly on the Drag City label, variously acclaimed both by aficionados of traditional song and experimental music. He has toured extensively in Scotland and worldwide. A keen collaborator, Alasdair has worked with many fellow musicians and practitioners from other disciplines including theatre, film, poetry and puppetry. He is a member of the folk quartet The Furrow Collective and the cult underground group Current 93. For their duo tour, Donald and Alasdair will present a programme featuring a rich variety of pipe tunes with guitar accompaniment, as well as a broad selection of songs both traditional and original. The pipe tunes bring together a diverse range of influences, from Scots fiddle tunes (Donald's elder brother's fiddling being an early influence), by way of Hungarian and Romanian pipe music, to classic and contemporary Highland piping and Lowland, Border and Northumbrian tunes. The songs range from variants (some rare, some more well-known) of traditional ballads or muckle sangs, to songs from the Scots lyrical tradition from the early modern period onwards, to contemporary songs written by both Alasdair and Donald. In the company of Donald WG Lindsay and Alasdair Roberts, listeners can expect a thrilling evening in which rare and splendid gems of Scottish musical history and tradition will be brought to life in the hands of two unconventional masters, who invite you to join them in celebrating thirty years of music and, just as importantly, of friendship! Donald WG Lindsay "A 21st century visionary" (Piper and Composer Matthew Welch). Donald has earned our admiration and respect for what he is achieving for piping" (Piper, Museum Curator, Author and Professor Hugh Cheape). "Lindsay coaxes such soaring sweetness from his pipes that any images of a gruff Scotsman shrieking the dead to wakefulness will no doubt be banished" (Matt LaBarbera, Tone Glow(. although he can shriek the dead to wakefulness too, when the occasion demands it (Alasdair Roberts). Alasdair Roberts "Roberts is at the height of his powers, occupying a place of his own. His career is increasingly a delight to experience. By making entirely original music that is recognisably rooted in traditions while sounding like nothing else, he is achieving something special" (The Quietus). "Mystery would seem to be something that Roberts seeks out; he enjoys unravelling the threads of myth, symbol, parable and song as much as he does winding them back up again or tangling them up in knots (Songlines).ho invite you

Also known as the Firebirds, Daria Kulesh and Marina Osman showcase passionate, virtuosic musicianship and heaps of heartfelt, infectious energy. Daria Kulesh has been described by Mike Harding as one of the finest voices and one of the most intriguing and interesting songwriters on the present folk scene. Her debut release Eternal Child was described as phenomenal, her second album Long Lost Home has enjoyed rave reviews and multiple awards, including LCM Album of the Year, the third album Earthly Delights was named one of the year's finest albums by Folk Radio UK, and her latest album MotherLand has been described as "astonishing" and "near perfect" by Liverpool Sound and Vision and "one of the albums of 2025" in a 5-star review by RnR Magazine. Daria has toured extensively in the UK and Europe, sharing stories and songs that are deeply personal but feel universal and timeless. Every performance is an emotional, compelling and uplifiting experience, leaving the audiences completely spellbound. Born in Russia but based in the UK for the last 15 years, she fearlessly explores her heritage and turbulent family history in Ingushetia (North Caucasus) with songs that arent just sung, but lived. "Refreshingly different, powerful songwriting" (FolkWorld). "Intensely personal and immensely resonant... incredibly moving" (TwickFolk). "Haunting and enigmatic" (The Sunday Times). Marina Osman, originally from Belarus, is a graduate of the Belarussian State Conservatoire. An accomplished performer as well as teacher, she was awarded a badge "For contribution to the cultural evolution of Belarus" by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus in 2008. In 2007, she was a judging panel member at International Chamber Ensembles Competition 'Nova music' in Latvia. She has also performed in Poland, Germany, Lithuania and Russia, having recorded several programs for 'Orpheus' Russian music radio and Russian TV with the classical music expert Mikhail Kazinik in 2009. Since 2011, Marina has been based in London, focusing on training young musicians for ABRSM exams. "Great battles of love and life all sung from the deep heart's core" (Mike Harding). "Daria Kulesh and Marina Osman took it to another level. One of the best sets I have ever seen" (Andy Tuck, Forty Tenth Promotions). The very best of the best included an amazing set from Firebirds (Daria Kulesh and Marina Osman)... the call for an encore was so insistent it couldn't be ignored" (Tony Birch, FATEA Magazine).

Sam Carter is a brilliant guitarist and songwriter who combines the observational with social comment and personal reflection (Songlines). Fans of acoustic music rejoice, the UK 's proud tradition of folk singer-songwriters is in safe hands. (Guitarist Magazine). Really wonderful (Jools Holland). Midlands-born Sam Carter is a BBC Folk Award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist renowned for his lyrical storytelling, which Uncut described as being as penetrating as Richard Thompson's best work. For over 15 years, he has been stirring audiences from Camden to Canada, from major festivals to intimate clubs. Carter's expressive fingerpicking led Jon Boden of Bellowhead to call him "the finest English-style fingerpicking guitarist of his generation," while Ivor Novello-winner Nitin Sawhney has praised his "killer voice." With a discography that spans six solo albums and two releases with the folk-rock band False Lights, Carter's music reflects a blend of traditional English folk, shape-note singing, and rock. Notable highlights in his career include a spellbinding performance on Later with Jools Holland, where he played songs from his shape-note-inspired album The No Testament alongside renowned fiddler Sam Sweeney. Carter's latest album release, the acclaimed Top 40 Folk Chart album Silver Horizon, has cemented his reputation as a skilful blender of ancient and modern. Produced by Andy Bell at the remote Red Kite Studios in Wales, the album's 11 indie-folk songs create a dreamlike soundscape, with guitarist Stuart McCallum (The Breath) adding lush, reverb-soaked textures. Carter says of this work, Im still dealing with themes of love, loss, and change... but sketching events in an impressionistic way gives the songs more room to breathe. Sam Carter's live performances are nothing short of captivating, filled with the raw honesty, humour, and skilled musicianship that underscore his standing as one of contemporary folk's brightest talents.

Gwenifer Raymond

Gwenifer Raymond

19 Jun 2025 - 22 Nov 2025

Welsh instrumentalist Gwenifer Raymond, is set to announce her third studio album, to be released September 5th on Canadian label We Are Busy Bodies. Last Night I Heard the Dog Star Bark is a hybrid of the ancient and the futuristic, where the arcane etchings of occult folk horror fuse with the unfathomable equations of the cosmos. As celestial drones and mutant folk meet a frenetic blues that bends and twists like space-time, on her new album Raymond finds herself evoking the work of pioneering rocket scientists, the words of fictional hobo prophets and the concepts of mathematical infinity. Raymond, via the circuitous trans-Atlantic journey of her demo - signed to San Francisco’s Tompkins Square Records in 2017, with who she released her first two albums. Her first proper gig was at the Thousand Incarnations of the Rose Festival in Maryland, where she hung with heroes such as Glenn Jones, Marisa Anderson, Daniel Bachman and Peter Walker and was presented by Henry Kaiser with a 1880s Joseph Bohmann guitar which she feels may be possessed by some fingerpicking demon. The Guardian has described her as a “profound talent” whilst The Observer praised her “awe-inspiring technique and intense musicality”, and Uncut Magazine has championed her “fast-developing talents as a composer of eerie menace.” She has since toured Europe, the US and Canada with the likes of Michael Chapman, Michael Hurley, The Handsome Family, Lankum, Charlie Parr, Richard Dawson, Ryley Walker, and Squid. Presented by Love Thy Neighbour. This is an 14+ event, under 16s to be accompanied by an adult
