Falstaff

Falstaff

4 Apr 2026 - 4 Apr 2026

The Ellen Terry Barn Theatre presents FALSTAFF by Robert Nye Considered by many to be one of Shakespeare's finest comic creations, Falstaff has been laughed at and loved by generations as the fat, vain, boastful knight who appears in Henry lV pts 1 & 2, The Merry Wives of Windsor and mentioned but not seen in Henry V. But did Shakespeare base his character on the real-life medieval knight, Sir John Fastolf? Fastolf fought in the battle of Patay, 1429, a disastrous battle for the English where his actions earned him a reputation (rightly or wrongly) for cowardice. As a professional soldier, he profited greatly from the French wars, acquiring significant amounts of French property and revenues. After his death in 1459 his fortune eventually passed to Magdalen College, Oxford, where there is now the Fastolf society, remembering him as a major benefactor. In his 1976 novel Falstaff, Robert Nye cleverly combined the Shakespearian Falstaff that we all know with elements of Sir John Fastolf (and a smidgen of artistic licence) to create a Falstaff that we only thought we knew.... A version of this play was first performed in the 1990's by RSC actor, David Weston. This version, adapted by Mike Stoneham from David Weston's original, premiered at the Ellen Terry Barn Theatre, Smallhythe in May 2022, produced by the Barn Theatre, directed by Peter Mould and performed by Mike Stoneham.

Bluff Creek By Charlie Flynn

Bluff Creek By Charlie Flynn

3 May 2026 - 4 May 2026

Bluff Creek is a new play about the men behind the Bigfoot phenomenon, and the 60 seconds of grainy footage that fooled a nation. In 1967, Bob Gimlin and Roger Patterson went for a ride in the woods with a movie camera and a mission: to catch a Bigfoot on film. And thats just what they did. To some, its the real McCoy; to others, its just a man in a monkey suit. To Bob Gimlin, its free drinks at the Idle Hour Inn and a flock of fans lining up to hear him tell the story one more time. Now, decades later, an investigator from out of town is starting to ask all the wrong questions, and a figure from the past is threatening to let slip what really happened at Bluff Creek all that time ago. Based on real events, Bluff Creek examines the lives of the men behind the Patterson-Gimlin film, the iconic piece of footage that brought us the image of Bigfoot we know today. Its a story about the cost of lies, the nature of belief, and the enduring fascination with Americas resident Abominable Snowman. Loose Threads is a Brighton-based emerging theatre company, from duo Charlie Flynn and Aya OShea, that seeks to find the humanity in weird, whacky and wonderful true stories. Their debut production, 'The Graveyard' was Fresh, Twisted and Cruel (★★★★ Binge Fringe) & Dead Good (★★★★ the Derek awards.)

Whisky Tango Foxtrot!

22 May 2026 - 23 May 2026

Grittily honest, totally enlightening and hilariously funny tales of policing from the late 1970's onwards. Its the late 1970s, Jack Bryan, a young father, shop steward and steel worker experiences the pain of redundancy just before Christmas and the impending birth of his second child. Caught up in the decline of traditional British Industries he joins the police at a time when that organisation is also in a state of rapid change. For the next 30 years Jack witnesses, first-hand, some of the most important events in late 20th century, British social history: the race riots of the early 80s; the miners strike of 84-85; and the decimation of British Industries due to both globalisation and Thatcher. Coupled with all this, Jack finds himself entering a world which very few people get to know... a kind of psychotic Narnia that is governed by its own rules. In the telling of this story Jack attempts to explain to the general public the reality of this parallel world. The results are both grittily honest, totally enlightening and hilariously funny.
Chemistry By Jacob Marx-Rice

Chemistry By Jacob Marx-Rice

15 May 2026 - 21 May 2026

Witty and tender, Chemistry is a life-affirming love story sparked in therapy. Steph's battling chronic depression. Jamies crashed after pushing himself way too far, way too fast. They meet in a psychiatrist's waiting room - hardly the stuff that rom-coms are made of - but the spark is instant and undeniable. What follows is messy, electric and unexpectedly beautiful. When your own brain feels like the enemy, is falling in love the bravest thing you can do - or the most reckless? Studies show that 1 in 4 adults in England will experience a mental health problem each year. Darkly funny and deeply moving, Jacob Marx Rice's Chemistry is a frank exploration of how we manage love - and life - when we rely on chemicals to keep us balanced.

Brighton Fringe 26! Saving Myself By Tim Stubbs Hughes
Folklore, poetry, and myth collide in a visceral new solo drama hitting Brighton Fringe. Set over one night, SAVING MYSELF centres on Lilly, a young woman alone in her flat, surrounded by books, half-remembered rituals, and an unlit candle. Since childhood, Lilly has been blamed for things going wrong: pets that disappeared, toys that broke, the uneasy silences that followed her through her family home. Over time, these stories became fact, shaping how others treated her and how she learned to understand herself. After a violent assault, Lilly reaches breaking point. With no one left to turn to, she fixates on the idea that something inside her - a demon, an inheritance, or the damage left by trauma - has to be destroyed. Moving between realism, poetry, folklore, and ritual, the play unfolds in real time as Lilly fights to take control of her own body and story. Raw, darkly comic, and unsettling, SAVING MYSELF asks what happens when care is replaced by superstition, and what it costs a woman to save herself.

She is doing an At-home STI kit. Her train of thought goes to where they met the first time, what music was playing and what they talked about. She is still doing the STI kit. She is thinking of all the sexual encounters she has been in. Their eye colours, their star signs, their ages. She is trying to find the pattern. She is trying to find where it all started. And she is still doing the kit, thinking the instructions are not so easy to follow. This play is a conversation about consent, power dynamics and privilege with arguments for and against the act of stealthing. It is a young womans self-reckoning of self-sabotage, confronting the questions arising from the sexual encounters she has been in. Within the belief of fixing the problem, she digs into every detail and all things in common that these men had and/or did. He's six years older than me. So was he and so was him. How is that relevant in this situation, in this conversation, in this play?

A sharp and heartfelt stand-up show about sexual identity, therapy, dating disasters, and the messy search for happiness, told through the eyes of a gay man just trying to survive with, Good Vibes - a dark comedy stand-up show about the things we avoid talking about, until they spill out anyway. Its a show about growing up, feeling left behind, and realising that adulthood doesnt arrive with the answers you were promised. Instead, youre left with self-doubt, bad decisions and a desperate urge to seem like youre doing fine. Rather than chasing punchlines at all costs, Good Vibes allows space for vulnerability, awkwardness and discomfort, trusting that the biggest laughs often come from the truth we recognise but rarely admit. George's storytelling moves between humour and sincerity, offering comedy that feels confessional without being self-indulgent, and dark without being detached. This is stand-up for people in their twenties and thirties who are tired of pretending theyre okay, who laugh at their own anxiety, and who find comfort in knowing someone else feels just as lost. Its honest, intimate and occasionally heavy, but always human. Good Vibes isnt about fixing anything. Its about sitting with the mess, laughing where you can, and finding connection in shared uncertainty.

Beneath the absurdity lies a genuine question, what can we do when the world feels unjust and out of control? In this case, its simple. Gather together, take action, and find hope through shared experience. Halfway Down Theatre is a small, Brighton based theatre collective made up of predominantly queer artists. With a keen interest in stories of hope, they focus on amplifying LGBTQA+ voices and tales of taking action against unfairness. Something! Sometime! Someone!

Something! Sometime! Someone!

22 May 2026 - 31 May 2026

How baffling that people hear Charlie as she enunciates her name Rushali (ROO-SHA-LEE) In this debut comedy hour a cacophony unveils as you uncover that yes it is rude to call an Indian Aunty - a peanut eating pachyderm. Just like New York Citys sewer covers, Rushali was made in India - right in the heart of Bollywood - Mumbai. She smuggled herself (legally) into the USA in her twenties only to find herself in Amsterdam's comedy scene (no, not the red light district............... c'mon.. what a cliche!) attempting to make the Dutch laugh - a feat not for the faint hearted. As she navigates this world wondering if her dead grandmother is controlling it - she pays homage to Bollywood as one rightfully must when they are born dancing to it's tunes.

Custard Club By Alice Harris-Deans

Custard Club By Alice Harris-Deans

24 May 2026 - 28 May 2026

Five women. Four decades. Twenty tins of custard. One delicious secret. Custard Club tells the story of Nancy, a young woman whose fraught search for queer community pushes her to the most sensible solution she can muster: summoning four women from across the twentieth century to her kitchen table for an unforgettable evening of passive aggression, genuine aggression, impromptu drag numbers and custard fights. As euphemisms and costumes slip to reveal hidden identities, Nancy realises that the cost of community is not the ignorance of difference, but the celebration and nurture of genuine authenticity. At times, Custard Club is a poignant look at queer costuming, coding and community-building, at others a campy, raucous spectacle. There are many fingers in many pies. Dubbed fondly as the lovechild of Top Girls and 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche, Custard Club is a heart-wrenching, trans-historical, egg-based romp. Why not pull up a chair?
