The Vaselines

The Vaselines

16 May 2025 - 24 May 2025

The Vaselines were formed in Edinburgh in 1987 by singers/guitarists Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, soon signing to Pastels frontman Stephen Pastel's newly formed 53rd 3rd label. Nirvana's Kurt Cobain regularly cited the Vaselines influence in interviews with the music press and Nirvana would go on to cover the Vaselines' Molly's Lips and Son of a Gun (both later compiled on their Incesticide collection) as well as perform Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam on their legendary MTV Unplugged appearance. Cobain's gospel-spreading no doubt accelerated their rise to cult sainthood, but the Vaselines would have gotten there sooner or later on their own accord. Lewd but nave and abrasive yet tender, the band's shambling, primitivist squall remains a perfect distillation of pop at its most guileless and euphoric.Eugene Kelly later went on to front Captain America / Eugenius, while McKee spent the better part of the decade out of sight, resurfaced in Suckle, and released a solo album in 2006. The Vaselines reunited proper in 2010 to record their second full album Sex With An X which was released on the Seattle label Sub Pop.This was followed by V for Vaselines in 2014. The Ramones inspired album featured many of the same players who helped make 'Sex.....', including Belle and Sebastian's Stevie Jackson, the 1990's Michael McGaughrin and Teenage Fanclub's Francis Macdonald.

The Bluebells

18 May 2025 - 25 Sept 2025

Initially the Bluebells enjoyed a whirlwind career spanning the early 1980’s with a recording output including three U.K. hit singles. “I’m Falling”, “Cath” and “Young at Heart” made with a procession of producers including Elvis Costello who became a mentor and teacher to the band. Guitarist and ex-fanzine publisher Robert Hodgens (aka Bobby Bluebell) wrote instantly memorable classics in collaboration with the two McCluskey Brothers who completed the Bluebells' essential troika and Kenneth McCluskey sang them in a likably unaffected voice, making every track count. With the release of their debut album “Sisters” in 1984 on London Records, The Bluebells toured widely in Europe and North America developing their live sound and signing to Seymour Stein’s Sire records in the U.S.

Sylvie Kreusch

Sylvie Kreusch

26 May 2025 - 26 May 2025

Ghent-based artist Sylvie Kreusch is rapidly rising as one of the most impressive and electrifying performers in Europe. Her trail-blazing music and visuals already turned many heads in the fields of music, film and fashion. Kreusch is known for her brutal, expressive lyricism and keen ear for both experimental and pop stylistics. On her breakthrough album Montbray, Sylvie Kreusch illustrated heartbreak with the suspense and thrill of a spy thriller. To say the Belgian artist has a flair for the dramatics would be a severe understatement. Wherever Sylvie sets foot, superlatives tend to chase her like a trail of fire. But once upon a time… there was a girl dreaming in her grandmother’s attic, her starry eyes fully immersed in a collection of vintage comic books. These bright, fantastical tales were a younger Sylvie’s gateway to a magical place, far from the daily toils of reality. Each turn of the page stirred her with pure wonder, possibility and excitement. It’s these big bold emotions that serve as the main conductor for Sylvie Kreusch’s adventurous upcoming new album. She abandons her lofty tenure as Belgium’s specter of the night, trading in her raging red locks for a dashing blonde. Finally in the driver’s seat with her lover sitting shotgun, she embarks on a horizon-chasing voyage where all fruits of life are savored and surveyed with wide eyes and luscious lips.

C Duncan

31 May 2025 - 22 Jun 2025

Born and raised in Glasgow by two classical musicians, Chris studied piano and viola before taking up guitar, bass, and drums in his teens, eventually studying music composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. After graduating he began work on his first album, writing and recording everything from home. His Mercury nominated debut ‘Architect’ was released in 2015 and after a spell of touring the UK and Europe he returned to his home studio and began work on his Twilight Zone inspired second album ‘The Midnight Sun’ which was released in 2016 and shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year. He supported Elbow on their UK and North American tour which led him to record his third album ‘Health’ at their studio in Salford with Craig Potter, which was released in 2019 and also shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year. Chris signed to Bella Union and released his 4th album ‘Alluvium’ in 2022. Following this he produced records for Scottish harpist Gillian Fleetwood, and Downton Abbey actor Michael C. Fox, as well as writing music for documentaries and orchestral commissions. Chris’s new album ‘It’s Only A Love Song’ on Bella Union was recorded in his “new and improved” home studio and will be released in January 2025. He is also a keen artist and paints all his album artwork.
Nap Eyes

Nap Eyes

7 May 2025 - 14 May 2025

Nap Eyes’ metamorphic fifth long-player collects a cache of nine fascinating songs recorded over the four years since Snapshot of a Beginner. The Neon Gate reveals classic touchstones (the uneasy interplay of physics and philosophy, perambulatory meditations, self-interrogating soliloquies, apertures of surreality, video games), but also evidence of divergent impulses toward nonlinear abstraction and longform improvisational composition (resulting in their most discursive, deconstructed, and deliquescent songs to date) and narrative and lyric formality (including adaptations of thorny poems by Alexander Pushkin and W. B. Yeats), imparting the sense that Nap Eyes have transmuted, as has their understanding of what a song is, what it can do, where it might go.

Benefits are an issues-based music collective from Teesside in the North East of England. They write songs about the urgencies that concern them, and they play them loud. Forming in 2019 and consisting of Kingsley Hall on vocals, Robbie Major and Hugh Major on synths and noise, and Jonny Snowball on drums they quickly evolved from a fairly standard IDLES-lite shouty punk rock outfit to a politicised group that merges noise, hip hop, industrial rock, garage and an angry twitter feed to get it’s point across.

JP Harris

JP Harris

3 Jun 2025 - 3 Jun 2025

JP Harris was born shortly, and fortunately, a few minutes before Valentine’s Day 1983 in Montgomery, Alabama. Within a handful of years he was wearing a green velour tracksuit and leading a large Doberman around for street credibility, at the young age of three. He had a charm and strut that would take him far, so the grown folks said; but roughly a decade later, on the opposite side of the country, he would leave his family’s home late one summer night with no designs on fame, fortune, or clothing endorsements, never to return. He had an inkling that the eighth grade was enough education for where he was headed, and set a course for Anywhere, USA. Turns out he was right. Spending most of his teenage years traveling by freight train, thumb, or foot, he would set down his rucksack for what he thought was the last time in rural northern New England, shortly after the anticlimactic event known as Y2K came to pass without much to-do. He spent the next decade living in remote cabins lacking the modern appointments of power, running water, or winter road access. It was there Harris honed the many trades he’d learned: sheepherder, logger, heavy equipment operator, farm laborer, restoration carpenter, and sometimes as contraband handler, while his musical palette expanded beyond the punk rock of his youth to include the Early American Folk Canon of blues, old time, and early country recordings. JP had long fashioned himself a carpenter who did halfway-decent campfire renditions of old country tunes, but turned suddenly to songwriting in his mid twenties after years without the slightest ambition toward “music business” of any sort. He would assemble a band, trade his work truck for an old Econoline van, and fifteen years would elapse before he would reluctantly add the term “professional” in front of his title of “musician.” In 2011, Harris loaded his van and trailer with every tool, guitar, and keepsake he could cram and moved to Nashville TN, shortly before the release of his debut album “I’ll Keep Calling,” which would win him countless accolades from various outlets and entities unheard of by the general masses. It was enough praise to keep him on the road, even if his largest reward garnered at the time was a sizable box of Taco Bell gift cards. He would go on to record 2014’s “Home Is Where The Hurt Is,” 2018’s “Sometimes Dogs Bark At Nothing,” and 2021’s Appalachian banjo-centric side project album “Don’t You Marry No Railroad Man,” under the moniker JP Harris’ Dreadful Wind & Rain. JP’s historic restoration carpentry has continued to be a baseline for his relationship to music; the yin to his yang, the Burt to his Ernie, the Dolly to his Porter. It was through this concurrent line of work that he met another twice-initialed singer with a penchant for old Americana music, obscure film, and overly elaborate ethnic meal preparations: one JD McPherson. The two became fast friends and would eventually, through many twists, turns, false starts, and biblically-proportionate plagues, enter a modest studio in Nashville to record Harris’ latest album “JP Harris Is A Trash Fire.” Over the course of nine months in 2023, they recorded a sometimes lush, sometimes sparse, and sometimes jarring country album of Harris’ originals, loudly and violently squelching any attempt to pigeon-hole a song into any subgenre of country music. Only albums by Lee Hazelwood and an obscure folk album Waylon Jennings made when his hair was still short were allowed to be mentioned in reference. Featuring the guest vocals of Erin Rae, The Watson Twins, Shovels & Rope, and producer JD McPherson himself, the record is equal parts satire, reflection, and apology to those that would listen. In a musical landscape of period-correct reproduction, “outlaw” internet posturing, and flavor-of-the-month variants on country, “JP Harris Is A Trash Fire” burns bright as a dumpster ablaze in a Walmart parking lot on a moonless night; some will fear it, some will gravitate to its acrid warmth, and most will have no idea what to make of the situation. Harris has been steadily elbowing the definitive boundaries of “country music” wider with every album, both sonically and lyrically, and his latest piece of self described “Avant-Country” is no exception. Even within the rapidly growing world of “underground” country music, Harris still considers himself an outsider, content to inhabit a gray area where punk rock ethos, folk art aesthetic, and the workingman’s ballad mingle. When he’s not touring, JP Harris can be found fixing historic houses, riding old motorcycles, or picking through scrap piles for useable refuse Presented by Punk Rock Blues. This is an 18+ event

Withered Hand is the nom de plume of Edinburgh-based singer-songwriter Dan Willson, who started writing songs almost ten years ago during a period of reflection following the birth of his first child and the death of a close friend. With a wayward tenor and unaffected charm onstage he has come to be celebrated in his adopted country and further afield as a songwriter and lyricist of rare wit and remarkable honesty. Alongside activity with his band, Dan is also a well-travelled solo musician with a cult following. 2014 saw the release of his strident second album New Gods, which propelled Withered Hand into the charts, featuring appearances by friends, luminaries and supporters from the Scottish music scene, from Belle & Sebastian to Frightened Rabbit to The Vaselines and beyond.

Mumble Tide

Mumble Tide

6 May 2025 - 9 Nov 2025

Mumble Tide are a Bristol duo-come-couple who met through Gumtree. Gina Leonard put in an advert for a bassist to which cartoon-obsessed Ryan Rogers responded to. Together from their bedroom in Bristol, they make music that represents the freedom they feel around each other. As displayed on the recently acclaimed single "Sucker", nothing is too silly, nothing is too corny - Mumble Tide is a judgement free zone. They throw together the 90s guitar-hooks of their childhood, Leonard's sugar-sweet vocals and Rainbow-Road-esque synths all the while Furbs the Furby nods approvingly from her pedestal in the room's centre. The snarly single "Sucker" - the first in a host of new music for 2021 - is chaotic and endearingly vengeful, Leonard flicking the 'V' as she sings "so long, so long, sucker" over blistering, garage-infused guitars. It follows their debut EP "Love Thing" which saw Lauren Lavern, Steve Lamacq and tastemaker blogs come aboard the Mumble bandwagon. An entirely self-constructed world, Mumble Tide produce, make their own videos and make their own artwork and announced their entry to the live circuit with sold out shows in Bristol and London.

Death Valley Girls

Death Valley Girls

6 May 2025 - 11 May 2025

Death Valley Girls feels less like a band and more like a travelling caravan. At their core, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Bonnie Bloomgarden and guitarist Larry Schemel channel Death Valley Girls’ modern spin on Fun House’s sonic exorcisms, early ZZ Top’s desert-blasted riffage, and Sabbath’s occult menace. Their relentless touring schedule means that the remainder of the group is rounded out by whichever like-minded compatriots can get in the van.

To watch them interact on stage is a mesmerising experience, distilling the ebb and flow of their musicianship into an addictive and captivating intensity.

Albertine Sarges

3 Nov 2025 - 14 Nov 2025

Berlin born and raised artist Albertine Sarges brings together a new band for her debut LP which approaches her take on feminist theory, musings on bisexuality, gender stereotypes and mental health. These topics fall under the ever-shifting veneer of Albertine’s chameleonic pop motifs: from Viv Albertine-inspired post-punk and kaleidoscopic dream-pop to quiet-loud guitar squall and Tune-Yards reminiscent vocal acrobatics. While Albertine Sarges maintains a sense of comedy in her approach, her music is also a platform to explore the self and contribute to broader societal discourse.
Dutch Mustard

Dutch Mustard

27 Aug 2025 - 5 Sept 2025

Holland born, London based Sarah-Jayne Riedel, “SJ”, fronts the just-out-of-the-gate alternative rock project, Dutch Mustard. Last year she released her debut EP An Interpretation of Depersonalisation, which was quickly featured by the BBC, getting airplay on Radio 1’s Future Artists and being selected by none other than rock's enduring sage Iggy Pop on 6 Music. Dutch Mustard produces a sound that is as dreamy as it is heavy, finding that middle ground in guitar tone between fuzzy and pristine. Riedel writes all the songs and demos most the instruments herself in her bedroom before bringing in other musicians. It becomes a collaborative project, driven always by SJ’s vision and creativity at the helm. SJ has spent the year since her debut release writing and experimenting creatively, while also juggling bar work at one of London’s infamous music haunts and engineer work at a prestigious North London studio. Surrounding herself with music at all times and always pushing to learn from those around her has made for a formidable band leader. Presented by LNZRT LTD. This is an 18+ event
Sunnbrella

Sunnbrella

24 May 2025 - 24 May 2025

London's urban daydreamer David Zbirka returns with Sunnbrella’s first full length album, co-produced by Patrick James Fitzroy (PVA, Sorry). Zbirka has been worshipping in the church of shoegaze since 2018 debut ‘Feelin’ Invisible’, which was followed up by a clutch of singles and an EP that served his band well at festivals like Standon Calling and Metronome. ‘Heartworn’ is a lockdown project several years in the making, written and recorded in parallel with those early ventures. Sunnbrella is a project we might describe as a fuzzy libation to classic early 90s acts like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine. It is also a treat for fans of contemporary nu gaze acts bdrmm and hatchie. If ‘Heartworn’ is a prayer, though, it is a gleeful and irreverent one. Euphoric distortion and windswept vocal harmonies collide as if in slow motion with determined dance rhythms straight out of the warehouse. It is an enticing and intuitive way forward for a genre that was originally teased for being populated by bands that stood dead still on stage. This is an 18+ event .
Peter Bruntnell

Peter Bruntnell

The singer-songwriter performs his original material. Rolling Stone once declared Peter Bruntnell to be, “one of England's best kept musical secrets”. England has successfully managed to keep Peter Bruntnell a secret for all this time, even from itself. “Maybe this will be the album to finally give him the worldwide superstar recognition he deserves!”, enthused every other Peter Bruntnell album review from the last 20+ years, with an admirably unwavering optimism. “If we lived in a just world, Peter Bruntnell would by now be in the middle of his third or fourth global arena tour, his biggest worry working out how to courier his latest armful of Grammy awards back to the UK so his butler could have them installed in the west wing of mansion by the time he got home,” said a feature in The Guardian in 2016, intent on letting the cat out of the bag, but failing miserably. Needless to say, we don’t live in a just world and Peter Bruntnell is still having to get by without a butler. Needless to say, we don’t live in a just world and Peter Bruntnell is still having to get by without a butler. Not even 2021’s primarily solo, slightly synthy lockdown album Journey To The Sun succeeded in putting an end to Peter's non-success, despite Mojo echoing the plea that, “Somehow, some way, this cult and infinitely class songwriter must get his due wider recognition”. The Scottish Daily Express with its 5 star review, slightly frustrated, said, or perhaps yelled, “I’m getting tired of saying this: He’s brilliant”. The Irish Times thoughtfully combined two quotes into one, saving us the trouble of going back and getting crushed under the sheer weight of Peter’s archive of press quotes: “With Journey To The Sun, the man whose songs NME once noted should be placed on school curriculums has done it again.” And he continues to do so. Peter’s forthcoming new album, Houdini And The Sucker Punch will do little to dispel this fantasy of world domination, but it remains unlikely to become in any way a reality. He will remain the secret singer-songwriter, lauded by the likes of Rumer, Son Volt/Uncle Tupelo's Jay Farrar, Kathleen Edwards, Richmond Fontaine/The Delines' Willy Vlautin, Kurt Wagner of Lampchop and various members of R.E.M.

2025 marks the fortieth anniversary of the release of The Monochrome Set's fourth album, The Lost Weekend, to celebrate this, the album will be performed in full by the band along with the original guitarist Foz. This will be preceded by a short set of songs from throughout the band's forty seven year history. SUPPORT - ROTIFER Following his recent solo work (2023's Holding Hands in Petrópolis) and collaborations with the likes of Helen McCookerybook and Louis Philippe, Robert Rotifer, ex-Viennese songsmith permanently exiled in Canterbury, is returning to his electric power trio of the 2010s because, frankly, it's too much fun not to. In the past, the line-up of Rotifer contained a cast of characters ranging from Ian Papernut Cambridge Button via Darren Hayman of Hefner and Mike Stone from Television Personalities to Acid Jazz legend Andy Lewis. This time round, Robert will be backed by sometime Alternative TV member Ruth Tidmarsh and ubiquitous Creation Records house drummer Dave Morgan (The Loft, The Jazz Butcher, The Rockingbirds etc.). Expect old rockers about Frankfurt Kitchens, Canvey Island and the Aberdeen Marine Lab mixed with more delicate recent fare, partly still finger-picked, but electrically so.

Flore Laurentienne

Flore Laurentienne

26 Jun 2025 - 26 Jun 2025

Baba Yaga's Hut Presents: Flore Laurentienne £17 (inc. fees) - The Lexington - 26th June 2025 Flore Laurentienne is an open window to the technicolor soundscapes of Mathieu David Gagnon - the Canadian composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist who shapes vast orchestral sound to interpret the rugged wilderness and waters of his native Québec. The namesake of an inventory documenting St. Lawrence Valley flora, Flore Laurentienne illumes the science and spirit of his surrounds through expansive string orchestrations melded with the textures and experimentation of early analogue synths. Following the compass and critical acclaim of his Volume I debut, Flore Laurentienne returned in October 2022 with Volume II to resume his voyage into environment and emotion. Recorded with string and clarinet ensembles along with Gagnon’s signature modulation, Volume II explores forces of water as metaphorical markers to navigate passages of life and loss, . Reflecting the parallel tenors of nature and humankind, Volume II locates another estuary in Flore Laurentienne’s tides toward contemporary sonic romanticism. In his approach to composition hued by leitmotif and constraint, Gagnon challenges himself to extract beauty from simplicity in homage to the changing faces of natural landscapes. The presence of familiarity and flux in Volume I is heightened through the vivid instrumentation of a fifteen-piece string orchestra, which Gagnon brings together with an array of 1960s and 70s synthesizers, including the Minimoog Model D, the EMS Synthi and combo organs - an innately ambitious project which forges the composer’s distinctive path in the expansion of classical music archetypes. Flore Laurentienne was nominated in seven categories at the 2020 ADISQ in Québec, winning the ‘Arrangement of the Year’ and ‘Sound Recording and Mixing of the Year’. In 2020, Volume I was longlisted for the Polaris Music Prize and received four nominations at the Felix Awards for ‘Revelation of the Year’, ‘Songwriter of the Year’, ‘Critic’s Choice Album of the Year’ and ‘Instrumental Album of the Year’. In 2021, Flore Laurentienne was nominated for the★★ Juno Awards★★ ‘Instrumental Album of the Year’ in recognition for his contribution to Canadian music. In addition, Fleuve No. 1 opened the Chanel fashion show at Paris Fashion Week 2022. Presented by Baba Yaga's Hut. This is an 18+ event

Zanias + Special Guests

Zanias + Special Guests

11 Sept 2025 - 11 Sept 2025

Zanias has been haunting underground clubs around the world with her instantly recognisable voice and uniquely ethereal electronic productions since 2011, with the spawning of her first project Linea Aspera in London. As a solo artist, now based in Berlin, she explores a more alien and spherical palette of sounds, fusing her coldwave past with the experimental pop influences of Fever Ray, Enya, early Grimes and Caroline Polachek. With her upcoming album Cataclysm, Zanias delivers a poignant call for revolution of both politics and consciousness in the face of humanitys existential threats of war and climate collapse, conveyed through her signature of deeply personal and poetic lyricism. Every song inhabits its own aesthetic universe and rhythm, featuring elemental fusions of witchhouse, trance, breakbeats and hyperpop. Cataclysm represents an ambitious defiance of genre in pursuit of artistry with a potent political message delivered with haunting balance of vulnerability and strength. It will be released into the world in late 2025, accompanied by a new audiovisual live set co-created with drummer Dylan Cairns.
