With hits like ‘Digging Your Scene’ and ‘It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way’, The Blow Monkeys epitomised the glamour of mid-80s pop at its most graceful and sophisticated. In the band’s frontman Robert Howard (aka Dr. Robert), they possessed a tall, charismatic singer who was both camera-friendly and clever, who appeared to be just as much at ease on the catwalk that is pop’s conveyor belt as he was penning witty, incisive songs. While quite clearly Robert’s band, though, the Blow Monkeys were also gifted three immensely talented musicians in bassist Mick Anker (he of the trademark bowler hat), saxophonist Neville Henry and drummer Tony Kiley. Behind the band’s stylish veneer lay something else, which became increasingly apparent from Robert’s lyrics. While some of the Smash Hits generation avoided politics with a capital P, The Blow Monkeys openly criticised the policies of the Conservative government, railing against social injustices and adopting an openly left-of-centre stance on issues of the day. From openly endorsing the gay community “Digging Your Scene” to an outright attack on Margaret Thatcher ‘Celebrate (The Day After You)’ – a duet with the late, great Curtis Mayfield, The Blow Monkeys were always the thinking person’s pop group. As the 1980s progressed, so too did the band’s musical style, from a sound once dubbed “jazz punk” by Robert to a more soulful, jazzy style and an ever-increasing adoption of dance music. The Blow Monkeys of their rare, indie debut single ‘Live Today Love Tomorrow’ (recorded on a shoestring in 1981) would be barely recognisable to those who bought the Balearic remix of ‘La Passionara’ from 1990. And yet a soulful, spiritually uplifting strain has continued to run through their music – and, indeed, that of Robert’s solo recordings – to this day.

We have now played all over the country and this year will be going over seas to mainland Europe! We pride ourselves on bringing fans an authentic, live, Linkin Park experience through our raw and high energy performances, playing all the hits that span the band’s catalogue. We work very closely with Help Musicians and have raised over £2000.00. 50% of all our merchandise sales are also given to charity supporting causes in line with our band’s mission and values.

Transvision Vamp was formed by Wendy James and co-writer and guitarist Nick Christian Sayer. In West London they teamed up with Dave Parsons and Tex Axile. The band was signed to MCA records by Dave Ambrose, the notorious A&R man from EMI records who had also signed the Sex Pistols. They recorded their first LP album ‘Pop Art’ and released a first single ‘Revolution Baby’ and then charted with their second single, a cover version of Holly & The Italians ‘Tell That Girl To Shut Up’, followed by a third single ‘I Want Your Love’ which went to No.5 on the UK singles chart. The album ‘Pop Art’ was released later in 1988 and went to No.3 in the UK album chart. Extensive touring of the UK and Europe continued throughout this year as their success grew, starting on the University circuit and ending with playing two sold out gigs at the London Town And Country Club, taking in the Marquee Club along the way with queues two-fold around the block of Wardour Street, London Presented by CHALK. Holy Holy are Bowie’s drummer and Spider Man from Mars – Woody Woodmansey and producer Tony Visconti, who worked on many of Bowie’s albums and played Bass on the Man Who Sold The World. Accompanied by an all star band that includes glorious Bowie-esque vocals from Heaven 17’s Glenn Gregory, a Bowie fan and friend who also performed alongside Bowie on the original Band Aid single in 1984. The group perform Bowie’s material from the early years of ’69 – 73, upon which both Woody and Tony contributed at that time, making these exceptionally accomplished musicians and writers a long way from a Tribute band. Formed in the Bay Area in 1985, Oakland thrashers VIO-LENCE helped define and refine what came to be known as the Bay Area sound. They instilled themselves as groundbreakers of the second wave of thrash with their revered 1988 debut album “Eternal Nightmare”. Throughout ’88 and ’89, VIO-LENCE toured the album to great success alongside thrash comrades like Testament, Voivod, Death Angel, Sanctuary, Nuclear Assault, D.R.I., M.O.D. and the Cro-Mags. In ’89, Megaforce Records/Atlantic signed the band, leading to the release of the bands’ second album “Oppressing the Masses” (1990). The band toured the album to packed crowds alongside bands like Overkill, Forbidden, Exodus, Flotsam & Jetsam, and Prong. In 1991, VIO-LENCE released their EP “Torture Tactics” and their third studio album “Nothing to Gain”. 1993 brought the unfortunate break-up of the band, with some members splintering off to form TORQUE and MACHINE HEAD. In 2019, the band re-united at last as VIO-LENCE, with original members Phil Demmel (lead guitar), Sean Killian (vocals), Perry Strickland (drums) and a new member in former FEAR FACTORY bassist, Christian Olde Wolbers.
