Simon Evans: Simon Evans is Staring at the Sun
BBC Radio 4 stalwart and veteran of a quarter century of highly acclaimed stand-up comedy Simon Evans has announced a huge UK tour of his new stand up show Staring at the Sun with over 50 dates from January - June 2026. Staring at the Sun sees Simon Evans (Live at the Apollo, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Simon Evans Goes to Market, One Person Found This Helpful) squinting at an uncertain future, revisiting the blue remembered hills of his youth and trying to stay human as the world around him gets smarter. With the AI singularity looming and “reality” feeling increasingly unstable, Evans looks ahead to the coming shockwaves of technology, and back to the analogue pleasures of hitch-hiking, pub bets, and getting properly lost. Turning his famously dry, surgically precise style on the big modern questions: Are we living in a computer simulation? What happens when your body starts issuing software updates you didn’t request? And is staring straight at a solar eclipse, against expert advice, actually an act of courageous self-sacrifice on the road to true enlightenment? Part philosophical exploration, part nostalgic joyride, Staring at the Sun is a hilarious analysis of reality and trust from a man desperately trying to keep his balance while the floor keeps moving. The tone is unmistakably Evans: provocative, literate, and playfully combative, but also soaked in self-awareness. Evans draws on theories propounded by philosophers and mystics since the days of Plato and Ecclesiastes, casting himself as a public intellectual but constantly undercutting his points with brutally funny domestic truths. Simon Evans is one of the UK’s most respected and best loved comedians who has been at the top of his game for over twenty-five years. His TV credits include two appearances on BBC One’s Live at the Apollo, one on Michael McIntyre’s Roadshow, and a season of Channel 4’s Stand Up for the Week. On BBC Radio 4 his series Simon Evans Goes to Market, delighting audiences with his witty and insightful take on the comedically-unpromising territory of economics, has had six seasons. He is also a regular on Radio 4’s The News Quiz, and various other panel games, and from 1998 to 2002 wrote and hosted eight series of the news satire, The Way It Is. He also stars in One Person Found This Helpful – a Radio 4 show he co-devised with Jason Hazely and Pozzitive Productions, that has fun with on-line customer reviews and hosted Headliners – a regular preview of the following day’s newspapers with two other comedians on GB News. Evans is also in demand as a columnist and has written extensively for The Spectator, The Telegraph and Spiked.
Michael Portillo - A Life of Two Halves
Secretary of State. Traveller. TV superstar. The inimitable Michael Portillo joins us live on stage to share funny, insightful, and poignant stories from his extraordinarily rich and varied life.  The son of a refugee who rose to become one of Britain's leading politicians and best loved broadcasters, Michael Portillo's life has been a game of two halves. He'll tell us about his break into TV - including the time he became a single mum. New Dawn Fades

New Dawn Fades

2 Mar 2026 - 4 Mar 2026

New Dawn Fades - A Play About Joy Division And Manchester returns with a re-energised and vibrant new production touring the UK this October. The play tells the story of four ordinary lads who, inspired by the punk revolution of 1970s Manchester, came together to form one of the most influential bands of all time, Joy Division. Following the untimely death of lead singer Ian Curtis, the band went on to huge world-wide success as New Order.  For 2026, New Dawn Fades reunites the creative team from last year's triumphant tour, with producers NIGEL CARR  and TONY DAVIDSON. It is written by the award-winning BRIAN GORMAN, who received much praise for his portrayal of Factory Records boss Tony Wilson and reprises the role this year. He guides the audience through the heart and soul of both the band and the city, introducing an array of historical figures, including Roman General Julius Agricola, Dr John Dee, Friedrich Engels, Paul Morley, and Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks! The result is a spellbinding journey of love, passion, grief, and of course music, drawing inspiration from the enigmatic lyrics of Ian Curtis, with a soundtrack featuring iconic hits of the late 1970's UK music scene including of course Joy Division. The play is directed by Brian Gorman and Lauren Greenwood, who reprises her role as Debbie Curtis. Josh Lonsdale reprises his role as Joy Division frontman, Ian Curtis.   A smash hit when it debuted at the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival in July 2013, New Dawn Fades has continued to wow audiences across the country, playing to capacity crowds and standing ovations.

Mike Bubbins

Mike Bubbins

20 Sept 2026 - 17 Apr 2027

Mike Bubbins, star of hit podcast The Socially Distant Sports Bar, and of BBC television comedies Mammoth, Tourist Trap and The Unexplainers, unleashes Throwback, his first ever solo UK stand-up tour. And things may never be the same again. Throwback is a powerful, thought-provoking, visceral hour of stand-up comedy, that pushes boundaries, defies neat descriptions and challenges the audience... As if it is! It’s actually an hour and a half of really funny stories, pretty impressive characterisations, possibly a song (he said he’ll see how that goes), a bit of nostalgia about the good old days, a bit of optimism about the good new days, and Mike generally having a laugh about life and not taking himself, or anything else, too seriously. Having said that, he may, at some point in the show, get very annoyed at berks, whether in the past, the present, or the future. Very annoyed. So basically Throwback is a comedy show about Bubbins sharing, and bringing to life, the stuff that he finds funny. As comedy concepts go, it’s a pretty straightforward one, really. ‘They asked me to do a UK comedy tour, called Throwback...and so I did.’ Mike Bubbins

Barry From Watford: Shooting From The (New) Hip
Demagogue? Iconoclast? Dilettante? Virtuoso? Ok, these words have nothing to do with the show, but they do make it sound clever and that's what it's all about. Shooting from the (new) hip, still alive and kicking, the nation's favourite nonogenarian returns with his stand-up show armed with fierce one-liners, biting satire plus some effing and that sort of thing for the teens. A rip-roaring, fast-paced hilarious show.

Dan Daw - Exxy

6 May 2026 - 7 May 2026

How do you continue to value yourself when society doesn't value you? EXXY (Australian slang for, ‘that's expensive, mate') takes us on an epic and tender journey back to where Dan Daw began - working class, with very little. Join Dan: A Queer crippled artist on the rise, as he transports us to the Aussie outback to talk about his imposter syndrome and fluctuating self-worth. With raw honesty and scorching stagecraft, Daw lays bare the pressure of success and the fragile balancing act of self-belief, asking what it costs to stay at the top of your game when you've always been made to feel on the outside. In EXXY, Dan is joined by three extraordinary performers who move like him. Together, they echo, mirror, and multiply his presence, conjuring the tantalising possibility of blending in after a lifetime of standing out. Visually provocative, emotionally fearless and threaded with humour, EXXY refuses to offer easy answers. Instead, it invites us into the contradictions Dan Daw embodies: bold yet insecure, triumphant yet uncertain, longing for community yet determined to be one of a kind. A pop icon and role model for many black women, and an outspoken ally for the LGBTQ community, the moment derailed Jackson's career for many years, while Timberlakes thrived. Who was invested in the backlash? What does all this have to say about the demographics of who controls the media, and the ways in which black women are scrutinised in the public eye? From THE MALFUNCTION to THE AFTERMATH and a celebration of RECLAMATION, Nine Sixteenths is a journey through 3 acts, exploring themes of representation and pop culture with a nostalgia for the early 00s, and the hopes and dreams of 4 black female performers through a visual variety of devised theatre, dance and lip sync.

Mark Steel - The Leopard in my House
"The consultant had told me he was confident I had throat cancer that had spread into the lymph glands. Joyfully, I held his hand, and looked up to the heavens like a South American footballer after scoring a goal. It was one of the happiest moments of my life." Join multi award-winning, BAFTA-nominated writer and comedian Mark Steel for his new tour ‘The Leopard in My House'. The topic? His battle with throat cancer. A battle he is winning (thankfully) and which only his rapier wit could fashion a comedy tour show out of. Cancer has done nothing to dull Mark's acute political observations or quash his "frankly bonkers" energy: you will laugh, you will cry, but you'll laugh again, and again, and again. The Leopard in My House is proof that this leftie, working-class, Radio 4 favourite truly deserves his place in the UK comedy pantheon. Mark Steel is best known for his critically-acclaimed BBC Radio 4 show Mark Steel's in Town (now in its 13th series), as well as his hit podcast What The F★★★ Is Going On.?. He has presented the BAFTA-nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC Two, and is a regular on BBC One's Have I Got News for You and BBC Radio 4's The News Quiz. He has also written several acclaimed books, including an adaptation of his critically acclaimed stand-up show Who Do I Think I Am? for Audible.

Leila dives into the wild ride of making a baby at home with her partner, a best mate as the sperm donor, and, naturally, his boyfriend cheering from the sidelines. Navabi unpacks love, ambition, and the chaos of building a family on her own terms. Equal parts absurd and profound, Relay is proof that family is not just what you make it, but how.

Jeremy Bowen: Truth Under Fire

Jeremy Bowen: Truth Under Fire

26 Sept 2026 - 27 Oct 2026

Gaza. Ukraine. Syria. Sudan. Yemen. The world is facing more armed conflicts than at any point in decades, and Jeremy Bowen has reported from the centre of nearly all of them. As the BBC's International Editor, Jeremy has spent over 40 years covering more than 90 countries and 20 wars. From El Salvador in 1989 to the frontlines today, he has interviewed world leaders, documented war crimes, been shot at, and survived to tell the stories. But something has changed. Israel prevents foreign journalists from entering Gaza. Russia controls the narrative in occupied Ukraine. Governments from Syria to Sudan restrict access, manipulate information, and discredit reporters who contradict official accounts. In the age of social media, competing claims flood our screens, but who is telling the truth? And how do we know? Jeremy has spent his career fighting for access, verifying what others want hidden, and bearing witness when governments would rather the world look away. He will explain how the battle for truth is being waged, why press freedom is collapsing in conflict zones, and what it means when the first casualty of war is not just truth, but those trying to report it. In the second half, audiences will have the chance to put their questions to a journalist who has made it his life's work to get as close to the truth as possible—even when that truth is dangerous, disputed, or under fire. An essential evening for anyone who wants to understand the world as it is, not as we wish it to be.

Harry Clayton-Wright: Mr Blackpool

Harry Clayton-Wright: Mr Blackpool

2 May 2026 - 2 May 2026

Presented by Lowry + Word of Warning Mr Blackpool is an end of the pier show at the end of the world from multi-award winning theatre maker Harry Clayton-Wright. Set in the not too distant future against the decimated backdrop of climate collapse or late stage capitalism - you decide, could be both - four Blackpool performers embed the history of ‘end of the pier' entertainment into a series of turns inspired by their lives and stories, the town's history and modern politics. Through cabaret, magic, dance and drag, this is cultural archaeology and satire at its campiest, presented in lurid technicolor and garish seaside spectacle. Remember your first time being led astray by a Liza Minnelli tribute act? Thought not. Been rugby tackled by stag and hen parties whilst dressed in a mascot costume on Blackpool's Golden Mile? Perhaps you just had a paper round? These are quotidian tales in the life of a Blackpool entertainer serving as inspiration for this bold new work. But who is this haunted impresario leading you through the night? What's beyond the feathers and rhinestones? The smiles covered in petroleum jelly? The sparkle and shine of the seafront? Don't worry about that, you're on holiday. The evening awaits you with Mr Blackpool. Mr Blackpool features flashing lights, loud music, haze and smoke, and stage effects including pyrotechnics, and themes that some people may find upsetting.

Le Gateau Chocolat: Spirituals

Le Gateau Chocolat: Spirituals

29 May 2026 - 30 May 2026

A homily of Black Queer excellence through Negro-Spirituals Le Gateau Chocolat delivers a Sunday Service like no other, in an ode to two ground-breaking Black American sopranos - Jessye Norman and Kathleen Battle. Collaborating with renowned Musical Director - Allyson Devenish (NitroVOX, ENO), performing a selection of Norman & Battle's famed 1990 Carnegie Hall concert ‘Sing Spirituals'. Blurring the lines between spirituality or religion, and spiritualism of self, Gateau's Spirituals will take our congregation on a journey of the soul. Seeing Jessy Norman and Kathleen Battle perform with an all white orchestra opened ideas that young Gateau could barely imagine, and now lives. Where acceptance of self meant defiance of his deeply Christian Nigerian upbringing, the power in the music of these hallowed spaces was transformative - from church to Carnegie Hall, and now Wales Millennium Centre. Welcome to Gateau's sacred space - his stage, his church, his dance floor - his safe space. Safe to explore the rich complexity of how songs born in slavery beget salvation; and where diaspora and drag collide the way only Le Gateau Chocolat can.

Lost Girl

Lost Girl

20 May 2026 - 20 May 2026

Some secrets refuse to stay buried.  From award-winning playwright Amy Lever comes Lost Girl - a powerful, spellbinding solo performance about family, identity and the weight of inheritance.  Birdy is 19. Too old to fight boys in the playground. Too old to skip maths. Too old , apparently, to be lost. But when she stumbles across a long-buried family secret, everything changes...  Hidden in the shadows of 1930s Cairo lies a truth her grandfather would rather forget. For Birdy, uncovering it could be her only chance to rewrite the past and finally prove she isn't as useless as she's always believed.  Sharp, darkly funny, and deeply moving, Lost Girl collides the aching nostalgia of early-2000s girlhood with haunting biblical gothic horror. Inspired by a real family secret kept by Lever's 98-year-old Middle Eastern grandmother, this unforgettable story explores Jewish-Arab heritage, belonging and the courage it takes to reclaim what was lost.  Written & Performed by: Amy Lever  Directed by: Dermot Daley  Produced by: Daisy Howell

Far From the Norm: Sing Child Sing

Far From the Norm: Sing Child Sing

27 Nov 2026 - 27 Nov 2026

How do we protect ourselves as we learn from the past, without living forever in its shadow? Sing Child Sing is a new solo work from Far From The Norm, an unfiltered exploration of healing, identity, and the invisible legacies that drift quietly from one generation to the next. Performed by Botis Seva and rooted in his own autobiographical experiences, Sing Child Sing unravels how abandonment, frustration, and faith embed themselves in the body and how they surface as both function and fracture. Audiences are drawn into an intimate, shifting portrait of Botis' inner reality, where time folds and refolds, and the past self stands face to face with the present. Through searing physicality and unflinching emotional clarity, we witness the anatomical rebuilding of a man: a body rewiring itself, confronting generational chains, and reclaiming its power with fierce, embodied intention. What emerges is a man suspended between memory and possibility, slowly loosening the inherited patterns that have shaped him. Sing Child Sing is a courageous act of transformation, an invitation to feel, to reckon, and to rise.
Matthew Bourne's Cinderella

Matthew Bourne's Cinderella

24 Nov 2026 - 28 Nov 2026

Music by Prokofiev London 1940. The Blackout. A siren sounds... New Adventures return to Lowry with the 30th Anniversary celebration of one of their most popular and beloved productions, Matthew Bourne's CINDERELLA - a thrilling and evocative love story, set in London during the Second World War. Matthew Bourne's epic interpretation of the classic fairytale, has, at its heart, a true war-time romance. A chance meeting results in a magical night for Cinderella and her dashing young RAF pilot, together just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz. With Lez Brotherston's glorious Olivier Award-winning designs, lighting by Olivier Award-winning Neil Austin and video and projection designs by Duncan McLean, CINDERELLA features sensational sound design by Paul Groothuis which will take the audience into the heart of Prokofiev's magnificent score, and the sights and sounds of war-torn London. CINDERELLA is both a tribute and a testament to the spirit of London during a time when every second counted and lives were changed forever. Bourne's vivid storytelling has never been more heart-stopping and touching, creating a unique and unforgettable depiction of a familiar but timeless fable.
Scottish Dance Theatre: 40th Anniversary Double Bill
Scottish Dance Theatre celebrates four decades of history and innovation with the world premiere of two new creations by internationally acclaimed choreographers Émilie Leriche and Edouard Hue. Leriche offers a poetic, slow-burning choreography that lingers in moments of connection, intimacy, and quiet emotional depth. In sharp contrast, Hue brings a raw, punchy physicality, virtuosic and charged with power. Together, these new works collide stillness with intensity, creating an unforgettable evening by Scotland's flagship dance company. Age Guidance: 12+
CIRKO - Based on Kimberly: Yes Person
Quintessential new wave, new wonk circus. Experimental, physical, fashionable, and satirical work by Inka and Imogen. Yes Person is a circus show that celebrates ideas too peculiar to live—but too fabulous to die. Inspired by the concept of "killing one's darlings," the creative process of discarding beloved but unfit ideas, this performance breathes new life into those very darlings. Embracing the rule of ‘yes-saying' in devising quickly leads to an expansive wasteland of ideas. From the dregs of their old creative processes—the sediment of ideas left behind, too mismatched, ambitious, or nonsensical to fit into past creations—comes a performance that gives these discarded concepts a second chance to flourish, expand, and spiral out of control. Based on Kimberly, a new company created by Imogen Huzel and Inka Pehkonen (formerly co-directors of Fauna Circus and Sisus). Our desire is to uncompromisingly and unpretentiously commit to our vision of what circus can be, and make things happen! Using the resources we have and whatever artistic medium best serves our vision, we create from a punk, playful, and politically left playground. Fueled by love and created with a clown mentality, we frequently incorporate topics of feminism, freedom of speech, friendship, community, sexuality, and identity. We aim to create an open atmosphere for artistic processes and experiments to grow and find their tangible place in the world.
Barrowland Ballet: Chunky Jewellery

Barrowland Ballet: Chunky Jewellery

One Fell Swoop: By A Thread

One Fell Swoop: By A Thread

10 Sept 2026 - 11 Sept 2026

Seven Acrobats And 30 Metres Of Rope Long spools of white rope run through pulley sheaves and wrap around bodies, explicitly connecting the artists' movements above and off the ground. Like the booms and sheets of a sailing ship the performers are hoisted and swung by one another to create striking tableaux and breath-taking dynamics. The actions of one acrobat affect and implicate the movements of others in a mesmerising negotiation of cause and effect. By A Thread offers rich visuals of inventive aerial acrobatics from some of Australia's best circus artists. The relationships between ensemble members on stage mimic the everyday relationships we have as human beings. The acrobatic ensemble is the vehicle through which ideas of risk and trust are explored, creating an intimate audience experience around the dangers and joys implicit in engaging with others.  More than mere bodies in space, By A Thread is an exploration of tensions physical, emotional and relational.

Cie Modo Grosso: Tout/ Rien

Cie Modo Grosso: Tout/ Rien

1 Jun 2026 - 2 Jun 2026

How can we make people see, feel, or seek time in its purest shape? How to catch time passing by, seize it in its very movement?  This is the challenge that Alexis Rouvre and his "circus of objects" have taken up. Juggler of time, rather than gravity, inspired by the astrophysicist Carlo Rovelli: "Bodies move naturally where time passes more slowly".  Alchemist of the vanities, he composes from very simple objects - knit, chain, stone - a work of a dense poetry, opening on the reverse side of the instant, where nothing lasts but remains. A choreographic ballet of hanging objects, tumbling with humour, and crashing down the unexplored corners of our sensations.
An Adequate Abridgement of Boarding School Life as a Homo
Meet Johnny. 18-years-old and in his final year at an all-boys boarding school. A member of the 7ths rugby team, Britney Spears mega fan and a flaming homosexual, Johnny fails miserably to fit into the school's (rather rigid) mould.   Enter Harry, the confident, charming and really fit 1st team rugby captain. To save a lot of time and trepidation, Johnny and Harry shag. they shag all the time.   An Adequate Abridgement of Boarding School Life as a Homo follows Johnny as he ambles through daily life, from awkward PSHE lessons, Grindr rendezvous and hook ups in the English block loos. This isn't a coming out story, or a gay tragedy. It is life through the lens of a young queer man, stuck in an institution rife with hyper masculinity and shame.   This play serves as a reminder that amidst gay narratives, there is a heart that beats and breaks just like the rest.
Second Trimester

Second Trimester

27 May 2026 - 28 May 2026

Second Trimester by Krishna Istha & Geetha Shankar, Directed by Milli Bhatia Four years ago, Krishna told his mum he was trying to get pregnant and she freaked out. Like, massively freaked out. In Second Trimester, trans performance artist Krishna Istha and his mother, Geetha Shankar, confront pregnancy, loss, gender, and the weight of inherited memories in this cinematic, Bollywood-inspired epic family saga. One Stage. Two Generations. Endless Drama. Based on a true story, Second Trimester asks: how well can you ever really know your parents? The anticipated second show in a trilogy of work, following the critically acclaimed 'First Trimester'. A Making Waves Major Commission by Battersea Arts Centre. Korean National Contemporary Dance Company - Double Bill: Voyage & Hakkō
Festival favourite Korea National Contemporary Dance Company (KNCDC) returns with a contrasting double bill which showcases the talent and precision of the company's dancers, including the latest work from choreographer Young-doo Jung since his 2025 Olivier Award nomination for Lear at the Barbican.  In Jung's Voyage, a solitary spacecraft moves towards a singular point. Drawing inspiration from the Voyager deep-space probes launched in 1977 which dedicated a lifetime to venturing towards the unknown, Voyage attempts to pause the present moment and lead us into an uncharted world beyond our experience. A tongue-in-cheek score intertwines the sounds of the 'Golden Record' - a 12-inch gold-plated copper disk sent into space by NASA, containing sounds which aimed to capture life and culture on Earth for aliens - with rock, classical music, and Korean traditional rhythms.  Inspired by the repetitive actions of the traditional Japanese cup-and-ball toy ‘kendama', Ryu Suzuki's Hakkō explores the gradual transformation of body and mind through focussed iterations of the simplest movements. The dancers enter a trance-like state of deep concentration, giving Hakkō an intense energy which draws from club culture and electronic music - a modern prayer to keep breathing in a world of perpetual flux. Duration: 60 mins (no interval) Age guidance: 11+

Fuelled by feel good vibes and great tunes, dance the early evening away with your own puppet rave pal under the canopy of a mycelium artwork. Bin Collective are a Lancashire-based art collective made up of Helen Davies, Scott Sadler, and Piss & Vinegar. Working primarily with repurposed and recycled materials, Bin Collective are best known for creating the world's first Puppet Rave, where every raver is a puppeteer — an energetic, immersive experience that combines party, performance, participatory art and sculpture. There's a chance to create your own mycelium-inspired puppet with a workshop led by Bin Collective. Using gathered reclaimed materials, we'll take inspiration from mushrooms, roots, low carbon tech, and the unseen threads hidden in our natural world.
Scratch Nights X Live Comedy

Scratch Nights X Live Comedy

19 Mar 2026 - 19 Mar 2026

New jokes. Half-formed ideas. Beautifully risky work-in-progress. Lowry Scratch Nights is back this March.  We're delighted to present our next Scratch Nights x Live Comedy edition, curated in collaboration with artists Aarian Mehrabani and Edy Hurst. Scratch Nights is our space for early ideas and brand-new work. An evening where artists share work-in-progress and explore what happens when new material meets a live audience.  These informal nights offer a supportive space for artists to try out new work in front of an audience - and for audiences to experience performance at its earliest stage.  For this Scratch Nights x Live Comedy edition, we're welcoming 10 comedians and comedy performance makers from across the UK to bring fresh experiments, new sketches, half-formed concepts and works-in-progress to the Studio Theatre. Some pieces may grow into future shows, and others might simply be tried out for the first time - it's all part of the process.  Expect an evening that's playful, surprising and full of potential.
