Transglobal Underground

Transglobal Underground

24 Mar 2026 - 16 May 2026

Few acts in the UK can demonstrate such a profound influence, a multifaceted legacy, and carry such a mysterious legendary status as Transglobal Underground. From their origins in the dance scene in the early ’90s they became one of the country’s best loved festival bands, a techno sound system, a pop group, a club night, a Middle Eastern hit production team, an improvised study group for Indian classical music, an Albanian brass band, a duo… or was it an octet?… Transglobal Underground exploded onto the club scene with the club classic Temple Head a track with inspiration taken from the UK bhangra scene, with one foot in the Madchester and indie worlds, and another in club music. The mix was totally new (DJs loved it but couldn’t work out what speed to play it at) and the track is still regularly played on the radio today. The collective went on to practically create a new genre with a series of albums mixing a heady concoction of club grooves, dub, bhangra, rock, digital hardcore and oriental melody, driven by the possibilities of musical technology, inspiration and a massive belief in the need to create something creating a bar that kept others looking for the next level of global experimentation. The best known albums are probably the most recent, Walls Have Ears, the top 20 Dream of 100 Nations and the BBC award winning Moonshout but they’re almost as well known for their collaborations with artists such as Page and Plant, original lead vocalist Natacha Atlas, the Trio Bulgarka, and Fanfara Tirana. Lineup: Tuup (vocalist, percussionist, one of the UK’s leading storytellers); Hamid Mantu (founder member, drums, percussion); Sheema Mukherjee (sitar, bass – Cornershop, Imagined Village); Rav Neiyyar (tabla, dhol – Bollywood Band, Diamond Cut); and Tim Whelan (founder member, keyboards, machines).

19 Feb 2026 - 27 Feb 2026

This show is all about Dave’s life in... well... a northern town, so no surprise there. From his working-class childhood in the small, terraced houses round the mills in Bolton through passing his 11 plus and going to grammar school with an ambition to be a doctor which was thwarted just after his “O” levels. Instead, at 16 getting a job in the Pathology department at Bolton General Hospital and working there for 32 years ultimately as Chief Biomedical Scientist in Haematology before throwing caution to the wind and leaving to pursue a career in comedy, as you do! He will tell how he turned his microscope off for the last time on October 13th, 2000, and two weeks later found himself on a car park only half a mile down the road singing “Walking on Sunshine” in the pouring rain on a makeshift stage dressed as a giant berry ; while a ten foot cck and balls slowly but surely inflated behind him. He wondered at that moment if he’d made the right decision. As it turns out, he had.
Sam Lewis

Sam's songs are rooted in the energy that defines this harmonious frontier, the space that unifies the human experience in each of us. It's the anchored spirit in this incubated territory of soul for which Sam Lewis works to celebrate and elevate with the tones of rock & roll, rhythm & blues and a country-folk muse.

As Paul says ‘Los Pacaminos started out just for fun, playing simply for the pleasure of it. It all took off from there. It’s real bar-room stuff - foot stompers, not too many slow songs - a real party atmosphere.’ A typical Pacaminos set might include Wooly Bully, La Bamba and sometimes, if enough tequila is flowing, Speedy Gonzales. Up for the party? Put your blues on cruise and come and join the fun!
Laid – James Tribute Band

Laid – James Tribute Band

28 Mar 2026 - 28 Mar 2026

Laid are the leading tribute to James – one of the best bands to come out of Manchester. On Saturday 19 May 2018 Mike Hadfield, lead singer, had a VIP ticket to the sound check prior to the James gig at King George’s Hall Blackburn. During the question and answer session Mike grabbed the microphone and asked the band their thoughts of him setting up a tribute band to honour their music. After deliberating as a band, Saul spoke for them saying “Go for it!” and Tim Booth gave his blessing. Mike set to work gathering the troops to create a band of fans for fans: Laid – a tribute to James. Laid have received high praise everywhere they play. As well as rising to the occasion of a 1600 strong audience at Shiiine-On Weekender 2019 and performing on the bigger stages, they also love the more intimate setting of a smaller crowd within a 150-200 capacity venue. Committed to getting the same energy and performance that James produce onstage and getting that live sound just right, the band have marked their territory as the leading tribute to one of the best bands to come out of Manchester. Playing all the hits including Sit Down, Come Home, Laid, She’s a Star, Tomorrow, Getting Away With It, and Sometimes they are one band not to be missed! Plus Clint Boon will be playing a massive ‘Madchester’ DJ set! The Inspiral Carpets and XS Manchester legend will be spinning the biggest tunes.

Josienne Clarke

Josienne Clarke

7 Mar 2026 - 25 Apr 2026

Indie-folk singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Josienne Clarke is often said to draw on traditional British folk inspirations, but is a thoroughly modern, multifaceted artist who follows her own compass. Blessed with a voice of crystalline beauty and clarity that has been compared to Sandy Denny, her myriad of talents translate effortlessly to the live space in performances that are all her own. She is 'BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards'-winning artist and has also been hand-picked as main tour support for folk legend Richard Thompson, as well as sharing a stage with Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin. As well as being a guitarist and vocalist of alarmingly good quality, her unforgettably dark wit also acts as compelling counterpoint to her own twilit, low-key and intimate compositions when playing live. Clarke’s rare authenticity – the main unifying thread running through her career – is something to admire: here is an artist singularly unafraid to express herself via her art and is naturally armed with all the verve and ability to do so – and bring the audience with her.

As well as creating award-winning original songs and instrumental pieces with the trio Lau, he has had a fruitful solo career exploring the cracks between classic and modern songwriting and the traditional music that he comes from. Drever’s sound is rooted in the earthy and hypnotic rhythms of much older music, but there’s a sophistication to both the lyricism and the instrumentalism which places him skilfully in the present. He has an extensive collection of BBC R2 Folk awards, plus a fistful of Scottish NaTrads awards for everything from best album, best singer and best live act to best original song. He has worked with many excellent musicians, including Jack Bruce, Eddi Reader, Mark Knopfler, Jerry Douglas and Roddy Woomble, and is a member of the beautiful multi-media project Spell Songs: The Lost Words. Currently, Kris is preparing for a series of Lau events around the UK, writing music for a new solo album and learning some old tunes for reasons he can’t quite explain.

Emerging Showcase: Gabrielle Sey + Emma Jane Mansfield
The Met’s regular night showcasing emerging artists returns with an evening spotlighting two exciting singer-songwriters. Richly rhythmic and lyrically led, Gabrielle Sey crafts a distinctive sound — one that explores the nuances of identity and emotional truth. Her songwriting is introspective, drawing on years of journaling, candid conversations and spiritual reflection. Sey’s music serves as both a diary and a dialogue — a safe space where raw emotion is not only welcomed, but essential. Gabrielle Sey’s journey so far has been marked by critical acclaim. Her sophomore EP, Vapour, which explored themes from the Book of Ecclesiastes was featured on Kickstarter’s Projects We Love list and received praise from BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Introducing, Fresh on the Net, Worldwide FM and Exile FM. Renowned platforms such as AFROPUNK and Gal-dem have championed her early work on Break My Silence (EP), recognising the authenticity and depth she brought to describing how her South London upbringing and Ghanaian heritage intertwine. Sey’s artistry is incomplete without her signature performative flair — a magnetic quality that transforms each live show into a visceral, unmissable experience. She has brought this energy to renowned stages such as The Roundhouse, BST Hyde Park, Black Deer Festival, Tedx Soho, Tedx Brighton, The Green Note, Earth Hackney and Abbey Road, collaborating with the Abbey Road Institute on a live video project. Her new single Colourblind is an honest monologue about embracing the spectrum of one’s emotions without judgement. The song began its life as a one-take improvised demo, and depicts the struggles that one goes through to maintain a sense of emotional stability in a world that always seeks for us to present as monetizable. Gabrielle returns to The Met following her set supporting Tom Robinson in October. Emma Jane Mansfield is a captivating singer-songwriter. A big voice from a small Lancashire valley. Known for her raw, stripped-back style, her music is a heartfelt journey weaving tales of love, loss, laughter and life’s complexities. With soul-stirring melodies and deeply honest lyrics, Emma Jane is sure to leave an indelible mark on any listener. Her warm northern charm, infectious humour, and self described “scraggly Fraggle” energy create an unforgettable connection as she delightfully engages the audience in between songs. Emma Jane is an honest and authentic musical story teller that will invite you to explore life’s chapters with her, leaving you eager for what’s next. After releasing and successfully touring her album Ember’s Edge in October 2024, she is currently writing and recording her next album, due to be released May 2026.
Emerging Showcase: Make Friends + Kieran Arnold + Charlotte Mary
April’s Emerging Showcase features Bristol based band Make Friends who bring their unique indie-pop sound to Bury for the first time. Support comes from local talent Kieran Arnold and Charlotte Kinsella. Bristol-based band Make Friends were formed after being collectively inspired by the indie-dance-punk of early era Foals’ Antidotes, and melodic alt-pop of Bombay Bicycle Club. The band continue to bring their fresh take on modern indie music and their debut EP forged fan favourite Ellie, followed with a string of singles and a second EP in 2021. Much of their work was written over various states of lockdown, which supplied a surprisingly creative climate for the band, with lyrics naturally gravitating towards tackling themes of isolation and mental health. To date, the band have seen strong support from BBC Introducing in the West, with stand-out singles Falter and Fever receiving Radio 1 Airplay, culminating in Make Friends being selected for a live session at the esteemed Maida Vale Studios. With the help of Ed Nash (Bombay Bicycle Club) at the helm as producer and co-writer, Make Friends began work on their Loaded Fun EP, released in 2024, and continuing to solidify their presence as frontrunners of the UK Indie scene. The EP received further support from Radio 6, BBC Introducing and beyond, with single Maybe Tomorrow being selected as part of their best of 2024 roundup, and lead single ‘Loaded Fun’ appearing on ITV’s FA Cup roundup. A singer-songwriter from Radcliffe near Bury, Kieran Arnold blends indie acoustic rock with a Britpop feel. His music is often described as melodic and uplifting, with a nostalgic vibe. Together with drummer Ben Robinson and backing vocalist Kerry-Ann Parkins, they perform a diverse blend of songs: Sick of the Sight of the City and Get Away show his ability to write catchy yet powerful Indie Rock tunes, The Place We Live display the cheeky observational side of his lyrics, while Forsaken Dreams and Dreams in the Dead of Night show his more emotional side. Charlotte Kinsella (formerly Charlotte Mary), a country music songwriter from the north-west, has been writing for over a decade. Known for her “feisty country-soaked songs about love, breakups, and the assured swagger of a woman who knows it’s all about three chords and the truth”, Charlotte’s music blends classic country storytelling with a modern edge. In recent years, Charlotte has performed all over the UK and across the Atlantic, including in North Carolina and Nashville. Her writing style is deeply inspired by the storytelling of Bruce Springsteen and the powerful vocals of Shania Twain. Cardinal Black

Cardinal Black

20 May 2026 - 23 May 2026

They say that good things come to those who wait. A little over two years after their launch, you could say that Cardinal Black are testament to the power of patience, thought and persistence. A debut iTunes #1 single and E.P.; a first gig to a hometown capacity crowd at Cardiff Castle; back-to-back sold out Academy tours with Myles Kennedy, then The Struts; a standing ovation at a Sold Out Royal Albert Hall supporting Peter Frampton; a live set recording in the Beatles’ legendary Studio Two at Abbey Road in London and a debut album that, within 24 hours of its release, had toppled both Taylor Swift and the Beatles from the top of Amazon UK’s album chart. An eventful first 2 years for any band. It takes years, so the saying goes, to become an overnight success... Rewind to 2010 and the Welsh-born trio of Tom Hollister, Chris Buck and Adam Roberts were riding a wave of hype, hotly-tipped by some of the biggest names in rock - most notably Steve Winwood who invited the band to record at his storied Wincraft Studios. A triumphant live set at Sonisphere was followed by a flight across the Atlantic to begin work on their first record, with veteran manager Alan Niven (Guns N’ Roses) at the helm. The lure of the U.S. proved irresistible to the nascent trio but, as is often the case, expectation rarely mirrors reality and the band struggled to adapt to the new country, culminating in singer Tom Hollister unexpectedly calling time on the band before returning to the U.K. “We tried to do the acrimonious split; creative differences and all that. We then quickly realised we were fairly reliant on one another,” says Buck. In the decade that followed, the lifelong friends cut their own individual paths whilst remaining close. Most notable has been the well-earned rise of guitarist Chris Buck, named in 2019 as ‘Best New Guitarist in the World’, who has forged a reputation as one of the most inventive and recognisable guitar players in music; winning plaudits from peers and the industry’s most iconic players alike. Drummer Adam Roberts found work as a first-call session player, whilst vocalist Tom Hollister moved into tour management - the three maintaining their musical connection by sporadically meeting up to perform together. It was just a matter of time then, before they were ready to make new music again. The writing and recording of new material began in 2020, under the name Cardinal Black, bolstered by the arrival of bassist Sam Williams. Fast forward to 2023 and the band embarked on an extensive European headline tour, culminating in an Americana Music Awards (UK) nomination for Artist of the Year. They may have taken the scenic route but Cardinal Black are finally here, and they've got plenty of stories to tell...
