Phil Green: A Broken Mans Guide to Fixing Others
Phil Green brings us a show to save all men from a mental health crisis (well, maybe not all men). After a chance meeting at a failed Big Brother audition changed his life and the lives of others, Phil Green brings us a show to save all men from a mental health crisis (well, maybe not all men). As heard on BBC Radio 4. Following back-to-back sold-out Edinburgh Fringe runs, multiple award nominations, over 20 million views on TikTok and selling out London's Soho Theatre, Phil presents a life-changing new show.
Carol Ann Duffy & John Sampson: Earth Prayers
In Earth Prayers, Carol Ann Duffy selects nature poetry from across the ages, from John Clare to Lucille Clifton and Kathleen Jamie, that reflects the fragility of our world and the urgent need for thoughtful stewardship. In a show encompassing anger at greed and destruction, alongside celebration of the profound and joyful, Carol Ann complements her own writing with voices from around this small planet. The interplay between poetry and music from virtuoso John Sampson, who brings an incisive, engaging wit as well as sparkling and sparky tunes on diverse brass and woodwind instruments, creates a unique and inspiring evening. The wonders of nature have inspired poets for centuries, stretching far back beyond the Romantics. Beautifully curated by Carol Ann Duffy, the poems in Earth Prayers span widely across time, but in their moments of joy, empathy or difference, even the earliest poems reveal a concern for the welfare of our planet. Duffy brings these early eco-poems into conversation with contemporary voices writing into the environmental crisis, and through this dialogue sounds a clarion call to cherish and defend the planet while we can. From John Clare to Lucille Clifton to Kathleen Jamie, the poets collected inEarth Prayersspeak at times as stewards and ambassadors of the earth, at others in anger at those who would exploit nature, or to question their own part in its decline. And the earth speaks back: in Stephanie Pruitts Mississippi Gardens the soil bears witness to the worst of human history, while in Poem Jorie Graham relays the earths plea: remember me. To encounter nature, these poems tell us, is to be humbled, to have our own smallness magnified by the presence of the sublime. Earth Prayers is a testament to the immense beauty of the natural world, and a challenging reminder of our place in the living skein / of which the world is woven.

An hour of joyfully absurd, charmingly awkward stand up from me, Toussaint Douglass. Toussaint Douglass is an award-winning comedian and writer known for his innovative, absurdist comedy. Blending personal and political themes, he uses his neurodivergence to create accessible, oddball humor. Toussaint's social media clips and green screen creations have earned him appearances on Comedians Giving Lectures (Dave), The Stand Up Sketch Show (ITVX), and Late Night Mash (Dave). Hes also a sought-after writer for The Russell Howard Hour (Sky), Dead Ringers (BBC), and more!

Inua Ellams: Search Party

Inua Ellams: Search Party

31 Jul 2025 - 31 Jul 2025

A man walks into a room with his life in his hands. He is the internationally acclaimed artist and playwright Inua Ellams (Barber Shop Chronicles, The Half God of Rainfall) and he has filled thousands of pages in an ongoing attempt to be heard, to give his genius wings that can travel. Every word hes ever written is captured, all the poems and plays and essays, the drafts of projects abandoned and works as yet unknown, indexed, rendered as binary, and waiting patiently within the confines of the electronic tablet hes holding even now. Pick a word, any word. Prompted by audience suggestion and open conversation, Ellams searches through his archive, unearths refined or raw gold, and presents his treasure in a spontaneous performance. Search Party is an act of call and response that hearkens back to the birth of storytelling. At this uniquely futuristic and puckishly chaotic interactive event, the artist couldnt be more present. Hes inviting you to join the work. What do you say? Newcastles very own 1b Books will be present as a pop-up stall at the Old Coal Yard on 31st July so audiences can purchase the artists books and maybe get them signed. Like his theatrical work, Search Party shows Ellamss versatility and fearlessness as an artist whos willing to take risks, especially in a show like this, which by its nature will never be the same twice.Theatre Mania He impressed us with his talent as a performer, with his genuine love of theater, and his unique gift of bonding with an audience. Theatre Pizzazz Welcoming, soft-spoken, ultra-casual but Search Party is the work of an immensely erudite, multifaceted, and busy artist His poetry is thoughtful, tender, and muscular. Vulture Its a luxury to hear Ellams I highly recommend. Go hang with him. New York Times

Ben Dover: The Bard of Beer

Ben Dover: The Bard of Beer

1 Aug 2025 - 1 Aug 2025

Youd assume that being part of the 2022 Newcastle Drag Idolwinning duo: Bonnie Love & Ben Dover, would be the start of a star-studded life. Bonnie Love is soaring but for Ben Dover, things just havent clicked. Despite having all the ingredients of a heartthrob greasy hair tied back with a bandana, perfectly trimmed stubble, and a little black book full of Edam-esq chat up lines Ben Dover is no closer to his dream showbiz life. Three years since breaking onto the scene, he's been forced to take the only gig available to him: The Bard of Beer a summer Santa-type role. But instead of smelly children sneezing, drooling, and coughing all over him while he reads The Night Before Christmas, its smelly hipster brewery boys invading his personal space, blowing beer foam from their wispy whiskers as they chortle at his haikus hailing the hops. He doesnt even like beer hed rather have a Smirnoff Ice. But that's acting, darling Ben Dover: The Bard of Beer is part lip-sync drag show, part poetry night, and part beer tasting created by the award-winning Ali Pritchard and Rebecca Glendinning-Laycock.
