Connor Burns: 1994

24 May 2025 - 24 Aug 2025

From one of the most exciting emerging new stars in the UK’s live stand-up scene,1994 is Edinburgh native’s Connor Burns third solo hour. A prolific joke writer, his Scottish-level cynicism and self-deprecation punctuates a disarmingly relaxed persona and an intelligent, razor-sharp wit. Connor’s burgeoning reputation as “one to watch” was cemented at the 2023 Fringe when he sold out his entire run two months before the festival started.
Justin Moorhouse: The Greatest Performance of My Life
The story covers subjects ranging from pantomimes to dreams, how to behave in hospitals, small talk, realising his Mum is a northern version of Columbo, and how being a smart-mouthed kid saved him from a life of continually being beaten up. Above all else, it’s the Justin you have to come to expect. It’s funny and interesting, and perhaps there’s a little bit that warms the soul, too.
A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol

25 Nov 2025 - 26 Nov 2025

A Christmas Carol Being a Ghost Story of Christmas The Old Town Hall’s resident company, the award-winning Dyad Productions, (A Room of One’s Own, I, Elizabeth, Austen’s Women, Female Gothic) who have toured their sell-out festive show Christmas Gothic since 2015, now bring their magic to Dickens’ classic and perennially relevant ghost story. It’s Christmas Eve, and the miserly misanthrope, Ebenezer Scrooge, is about to have a ghostly night he’ll never forget. Dickens' festive, immortal tale of redemption and compassion is brought to life in Dyad’s inimitable solo style. Draw near for an evening of mistletoe and merriment in the company of Marley, Fezziwig, and Cratchit et al to discover the true meaning of Christmas: tenderness for the past, courage for the present, and hope for the future. Ebenezer lives in us all, and this glorious tale reminds us how not to give in to the Scrooge within. Taking inspiration from Dickens' original performances of his own work and utilising the brilliant narrator of the novel to bring the story to life, the piece is performed Andrew Margerison (Frantic Assembly’s Fatherland, Macbeth), and directed by Rebecca Vaughan.

It's a Mystery!

3 Oct 2025 - 3 Oct 2025

A hilarious and moving exploration of the enduring appeal of murder mysteries “I suppose you’re wondering why I’ve gathered you all here this evening.” Tim Benzie, the acclaimed creator and host of Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote presents his now one-man show, a funny and engrossing deep dive into the appeal of murder mysteries. The audience are summoned to the drawing room as Tim takes on the role of detective, examining the clues that drew him to the genre as a child, a journey from Scooby Doo and Encyclopaedia Brown, to German mystery-puzzle books via reading the entire works of Agatha Christie as a teenager. Along the way he draws connections between obsessions with detective films, the TV series Murder, She Wrote and his current Solve-Along show. There is a tenacious theory that in times of societal strife, murder mysteries surge in popularity, and Tim unpacks the notion via stories of his own troubled times, to determine not just why there is a detective in all of us, but ultimately what is the mystery that we’re all trying to solve. Funny, touching and showcasing the delight in pop culture minutiae that has made Solve-Along-AMurder- She-Wrote a cult hit, It’s a Mystery! will appeal to fans of the genre and anyone who’s ever wondered whodunnit (and why). It’s a Mystery! has played to critical acclaim at the 2023 and 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Bread and Roses Theatre London in 2024 and will tour Australia in early 2025.

In contrast, Alex, dressed in a Hugo Boss suit and basking in the prestige of a Canary Wharf job, seems to have it all. Originally premiered at the Maltings Theatre in St Albans, this gripping play was hailed as an 'outstanding script' at Theatre503 in July 2022. Following a successful run at the Jack Studio Theatre in early 2023, it was revived at Park Theatre in 2024 after the success of a previous show. With a revised script and the support of the Park's creative team, it garnered 5-star reviews and was subsequently published by Salamander Street Publishing. In 2023, Stone Foundation celebrated 25 years of success with the release of the retrospective anthology Standing In The Light. Their new material is reflective of the confidence within the band, who cannot wait for the fans to hear it, and indeed to play the new material live. Neil Jones says: “With ‘Cut Me Loose’ we wondered what it would be like to mix Talking Heads, Fela Kuti and Disco. The addition of the Prince of Burundi JP Bimeni on vocals was the cherry on top of a very funky cake”. Of the track Summer Song, Neil Sheasby said, “Sometimes you just capture the spirit of what you are searching for in a song first time and that was pretty much the case with this one. Most of what you hear is from the initial demo. We had Omar in mind for this as soon as it came together, thankfully he liked it and agreed to collaborate on it, he brings the magic and lights the tune up”. Neil Jones says of The Revival of Survival, “I think this is our funkiest to date. We wanted to push the sound to a different place with elements of disco, funk and house, and lyrically retain the optimism you find on a Stone Foundation record. It’s a joyous uplifting record that deserves to be played loud out on the dance floor”. Neil Sheasby agreed, “I feel like the whole record has a club vibe to it, it’s bookended by a couple of almost ambient moments but on the whole it’s a dancer! It feels very cohesive and concise. We were quite mindful to create a more contemporary and modern sounding album. We certainly captured the mood and spirit of our intentions and I think it’ll be a whole load of fun(k) to perform live too”.

Ian Stone is “Looking for the Wow”
Life can’t just be the humdrum, the mundane and the routine before the inevitable slide to disease, decay and death. Why can’t we sneak in a bit of awesome, a tad of amazing and maybe a smidge of wonderful? A forest canopy opening onto a huge vista would be enchanting for some but my ancestors wandered in the desert for forty years, I think we’ve been outdoors enough. Others get their fix from the spiritual but I’ve been harbouring a grudge against God since my mother stopped me going to Arsenal after my Barmitzvah. Forty nine years ago. ’God will be watching’ she said. Well, at least he got to see the game. The point is, life could be so much better so I’m on the lookout. Come and join me on the hunt.
