From one of the most exciting emerging new stars in the UK’s live stand-up scene,1994 is Edinburgh native’s Connor Burns third solo hour. A prolific joke writer, his Scottish-level cynicism and self-deprecation punctuates a disarmingly relaxed persona and an intelligent, razor-sharp wit. Justin Moorhouse: The Greatest Performance of My Life
The story covers subjects ranging from pantomimes to dreams, how to behave in hospitals, small talk, realising his Mum is a northern version of Columbo, and how being a smart-mouthed kid saved him from a life of continually being beaten up. Above all else, it’s the Justin you have to come to expect. It’s funny and interesting, and perhaps there’s a little bit that warms the soul, too.
A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol

25 Nov 2025 - 26 Nov 2025

A Christmas Carol Being a Ghost Story of Christmas The Old Town Hall’s resident company, the award-winning Dyad Productions, (A Room of One’s Own, I, Elizabeth, Austen’s Women, Female Gothic) who have toured their sell-out festive show Christmas Gothic since 2015, now bring their magic to Dickens’ classic and perennially relevant ghost story. It’s Christmas Eve, and the miserly misanthrope, Ebenezer Scrooge, is about to have a ghostly night he’ll never forget. Dickens' festive, immortal tale of redemption and compassion is brought to life in Dyad’s inimitable solo style. Draw near for an evening of mistletoe and merriment in the company of Marley, Fezziwig, and Cratchit et al to discover the true meaning of Christmas: tenderness for the past, courage for the present, and hope for the future. Ebenezer lives in us all, and this glorious tale reminds us how not to give in to the Scrooge within. Taking inspiration from Dickens' original performances of his own work and utilising the brilliant narrator of the novel to bring the story to life, the piece is performed Andrew Margerison (Frantic Assembly’s Fatherland, Macbeth), and directed by Rebecca Vaughan.

It's a Mystery!

3 Oct 2025 - 3 Oct 2025

A hilarious and moving exploration of the enduring appeal of murder mysteries “I suppose you’re wondering why I’ve gathered you all here this evening.” Tim Benzie, the acclaimed creator and host of Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote presents his now one-man show, a funny and engrossing deep dive into the appeal of murder mysteries. The audience are summoned to the drawing room as Tim takes on the role of detective, examining the clues that drew him to the genre as a child, a journey from Scooby Doo and Encyclopaedia Brown, to German mystery-puzzle books via reading the entire works of Agatha Christie as a teenager. Along the way he draws connections between obsessions with detective films, the TV series Murder, She Wrote and his current Solve-Along show. There is a tenacious theory that in times of societal strife, murder mysteries surge in popularity, and Tim unpacks the notion via stories of his own troubled times, to determine not just why there is a detective in all of us, but ultimately what is the mystery that we’re all trying to solve. Funny, touching and showcasing the delight in pop culture minutiae that has made Solve-Along-AMurder- She-Wrote a cult hit, It’s a Mystery! will appeal to fans of the genre and anyone who’s ever wondered whodunnit (and why). It’s a Mystery! has played to critical acclaim at the 2023 and 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Bread and Roses Theatre London in 2024 and will tour Australia in early 2025.

Ian Stone - Looking for the Wow

Ian Stone - Looking for the Wow

31 Jul 2025 - 29 May 2026

Life can’t just be the humdrum, the mundane and the routine before the inevitable slide to disease, decay and death. Why can’t we sneak in a bit of awesome, a tad of amazing and maybe a smidge of wonderful? A forest canopy opening onto a huge vista would be enchanting for some but my ancestors wandered in the desert for forty years, I think we’ve been outdoors enough. Others get their fix from the spiritual but I’ve been harbouring a grudge against God since my mother stopped me going to Arsenal after my Barmitzvah. Forty nine years ago. ’God will be watching’ she said. Well, at least he got to see the game. The point is, life could be so much better so I’m on the lookout. Come and join me on the hunt.

Festival favourite Lucy returns with a brand new show about the power of letting yourself go - in every sense. Whether that means embracing your wrinkles and love handles whilst living in a slanket, or having a couple of babychams and dancing like nobody’s watching (and if you’re a middle aged woman, they’re probably not). It’s also about letting go of the person you’ve always thought you are, and using your midlife crisis to pursue new goals and reinvent yourself. “Impeccably punchlined anecdotes … genuinely delightful” The Telegraph “A treat from start to finish” The Herald
Simon Evans: Simon Evans is Staring at the Sun
Simon Evans is Back! Waaaay back... With growing evidence that we are living in a Computer Simulation - and a pretty glitchy, off-brand simulation at that - and the approaching watershed of the AI Singularity looming like a weirdly pixelated cumulo-nimbus on the horizon, BBC Radio 4 stalwart and veteran of a quarter century of highly acclaimed stand-up comedy Simon Evans is squinting at an uncertain future, and revisiting the blue remembered hills of his youth.
Ruthless: A Night With Ruth Ellis

Ruthless: A Night With Ruth Ellis

15 Oct 2025 - 15 Oct 2025

"Do you like going to the pictures? I know a good one. It starts when I was fourteen. And I said, "Mum. I'm going to make something of my life'." All Ruth Ellis wants is the adoration that Diana Dors gets. So when the ticket to a brighter future comes in the form of a London nightclub, Ruth seizes the opportunity to be a leading lady. But real life isn't like the movies. The handsome heroes don't always save you. In fact, sometimes, they are the reason you're fighting for your life. - - From award-winning actor & writer, Katherine Moran (Slow Horses, Call The Midwife), Ruthless: A Night With Ruth Ellis uses Ruth's own words to create an exciting, visceral reclaiming of the true story of Britain's last woman to be hanged. Ruthless has been further developed with the Masterclass Theatre Trust and Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, with special thanks to the Shaw Theatre. This production also coincides with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Previous work from Katherine Moran: "A special mention is due to Katherine Moran... uncannily convincing" The Stage "Moran is particularly strong... warm, hilarious and totally reasonable" Spy In The Stalls "Lovable... wonderfully portrayed by Moran" London Pub Theatres
