North Coast Arts & Edge Street Live Present Brian Bilston:
Brian Bilston - How to Lay an Egg with a Horse Inside - An alternative guide to writing and enjoying poetry. Get ready for an evening of comedy and laughter, as he takes us through the hows, whys and whats of reading, writing and enjoying poetry every day. With over 500,000 followers on social media and a host of sell-out shows across the country, Brian Bilston is one of the UK's most popular poets. He has published several bestselling collections of poetry, including 'You Took the Last Bus Home', 'Alexa', 'what is there to know about love' and 'Days Like These'. His novel 'Diary of a Somebody' was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award, and he has also written collections of poetry for younger readers. In 2025 he released an album of his poetry set to music, Sounds Made by Humans, in collaboration with The Catenary Wires. Described as the Poet Laureate of Twitter and part John Cooper-Clarke, part Frank Sidebottom, Brian Bilston is a poet clouded in the pipe smoke of mystery. Very little is known about him other than the fragments of information revealed on social media: his penchant for tank tops, his enjoyment of Vimto, his dislike of (and his poems about) Jeremy Clarkson. This is a seated show starting at 7.30pm. The show will be in two parts with a short interval at 8:15pm. Mark Steel

Mark Steel

13 May 2026 - 13 May 2026

Bude Lit Fest is delighted to welcome back the multi award-winning, BAFTA-nominated writer and comedian Mark Steel for his new tour The Leopard in My House. The topic His battle with throat cancer. A battle he is winning (thankfully) and which only his rapier wit could fashion a comedy tour show out of. Cancer has done nothing to dull Mark's acute political observations or quash his "frankly bonkers" energy: you will laugh, you will cry, but you'll laugh again, and again, and again. Best known for his critically-acclaimed BBC Radio 4 show Mark Steel's in Town, The Leopard in My House is proof that this leftie, working-class, Radio 4 favourite truly deserves his place in the UK comedy pantheon. Curtis Garner 'Orange' (Published Feb 2026)
Curtis Garner, author of the acclaimed debut and 'instant queer classic' 'Isaac', will be speaking about his candid and atmospheric second novel 'Orange'. Set between the Cornish coast and East London, two teenage boys Daniel Orange and local boy Jago form an unexpected and transformative connection in the quiet fishing village of Portscatho in 2018. Five years later, Daniel has rewritten himself in London: sharper, louder, queer in a way the city understands. But a visit from Jago stirs up a reckoning with his former life, forcing them both to question how much change their bond can withstand. Garner blends coming of age with literary romance and a touch of family drama to create an unflinchingly honest portrait of first love and self-discovery and examines how we reconcile our past selves with the people we become. Albert Lee

Albert Lee

16 Oct 2026 - 16 Oct 2026

Albert Lee's impeccable country music and rock pedigree stretches back over more than 40 years. He has performed with many of the greats in country and rock, including Joe Cocker, Emmylou Harris, Eric Clapton and the Everly Brothers. As well as being a top guitarist, he is also a red hot piano player and a pretty good singer too. THE HISTORY OF Albert Lee Widely regarded as one of the greatest and most technically gifted guitarists of all time, Albert Lee occupies a rare place in music history a player revered equally by rock royalty, country legends, and guitar obsessives the world over. Over an extraordinary career spanning more than six decades, he has worked alongside an astonishing roll call of artists including The Everly Brothers, Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris, and The Crickets not as a sideman in name only, but as a defining musical voice. Born in England, Albert emerged from the explosive, genre-melting London scene of the early 1960s, a time when rock n roll, blues, country, and pop collided nightly in clubs and studios. During this formative period, he famously swapped bands and stages with contemporaries such as Jimmy Page and Chris Farlowe, absorbing influences at a ferocious rate while quietly forging a style entirely his own one that blended lightning-fast precision with deep musicality and unmistakable tone. Albert's move to the United States marked a turning point. Immersing himself fully in the American country and roots scene, he became a bridge between British rock sensibility and authentic Nashville musicianship, earning a reputation as the guitarist players spoke about in hushed, reverent tones. His jaw-dropping speed, flawless hybrid picking, and melodic clarity set new benchmarks, influencing generations of players across rock, country, and beyond. Alongside a celebrated solo career, Albert's peerless skill was formally recognised in 2002, when he won a Grammy Award for his contribution to the definitive recording of Foggy Mountain Breakdown a moment that cemented his status not just as a virtuoso, but as a custodian of American musical heritage. Still touring today with undiminished fire and finesse, Albert Lee remains a living master, instantly recognisable by his iconic Ernie Ball Music Man signature guitar and, more importantly, by a sound that is as joyful as it is jaw-dropping. Few guitarists are admired by fans, feared by fellow players, and respected by legends in equal measure Albert Lee is one of them. This is a seated show starting at 7.30pm. The show will be in two parts with a short interval at 8:15pm. Musings and Lyrics: An Intimate Evening of Songs, Stories & Silliness in the Company of Nik Kershaw
Nik Kershaw exploded onto the UK pop scene in 1984. A string of global hit singles including Wouldnt it Be Good, The Riddle and I Wont Let the Sun Go Down on Me saw him languish for 62 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, making him the UK's biggest selling solo artist that year. In 1985, he performed at Live Aid. After stepping out of the limelight to concentrate on writing and producing, Nik wrote Chesney Hawkes's The One and Only and collaborated with Elton John, Lulu, Petula Clark, The Hollies, Ronan Keating, Jason Donovan, Let Loose, Sia, Imogen Heap, Gary Barlow and Bonnie Tyler. In 1998, Nik returned to performing and has been crafting critically acclaimed albums ever since. Now he's ready to look back with an intimate evening to coincide with the release of his new book. Expect songs, stories, and silliness from one of the nation's most-loved performers. Standard Seats are Unreserved. Premium/Meet'n'Greet tickets include front rows.
