Cud + Barbarian Horde

24 Jul 2025 - 24 Jul 2025

Emerging from the same art/design cauldron that produced fellow Leeds legends Soft Cell, Scritti Politti, and The Mekons, CUD were the pre-Britpop answer to doleful shoegazing bands - fun-loving, light-hearted, romantic and downright catchy. Alternatively loved or loathed like a yeast extract, CUD are indie rock for the unpretentious pleasure seeker, boasting as they do the rich deep-lunged voice of Carl Puttnam, edgy guitars of Mike Dunphy and tight, funky rhythm section of William Potter, bass and Gogs Byrn, drums. CUD were initially lauded for their quirky Peel session cover of ‘You Sexy Thing’ in 1987. They soon built up a huge live following and buffed up their repertoire with a string of unstraight pop beauties, best exemplified by the 1990 album ‘Leggy Mambo’. This led to a major-label deal with A&M in 1991, front-page NME coverage, massive sellout gigs and proper Top 30 hits, ‘Rich and Strange’ and ‘Purple Love Balloon’. Misunderstood by record companies and press, CUD packed away their guitars and sticks in 1995 but, bolstered by a greatest hits anthology (‘Rich and Strange’) in 2006, they agreed to tread the boards again, with a further reunion following in 2012 (now with original guitarist and key songwriter Mike Dunphy) and continue to find an army of ‘Space CUDets’ still eager to sing along, dance like fruitcakes and invade their stage. Gaye Bykers on Acid

Gaye Bykers on Acid

5 Sept 2025 - 23 Jan 2026

Formed in Leicester in 1985 the Gaye Bykers on Acid rose to fame with their first independent release "Everythang's Groovy", which reached the Indie top 10. The Bykers followed their initial success with the "Nosedive Karma EP", which topped the independent charts. With their incendiary live shows their fan base grew, including a now infamous appearance at Glastonbury festival. The band were one of the first to fuse rocking riffs with Hip Hop beats and along with Pop Will Eat Itself became a part of the "Grebo" movement and in turn became front page news. Ahead of their time or just out of their minds, the Bykers were flavour of the month, which led the band to sign a deal with Virgin records, with whom they made 2 albums, "Drill your own hole" which was the soundtrack to a movie of the same name and the critically acclaimed "Stewed to the Gills". The Bykers then went stateside playing with the Cult at Madison Square Garden, where they impressed a watching Joey Ramone, who offered the band a support slot on the Ramones upcoming European tour. The band continued to evolve musically exploring new styles. Touring the UK, US and Europe it was this hedonistic and hectic schedule that eventually led the band to finally self-destruct in 1990... The original line up reformed in 2016 to play the Indie Daze festival and buoyed by the positive response they decided to carry on.

Morton Valence + O'connell & Co.

26 Jun 2025 - 26 Jun 2025

Urban country legends Morton Valence make a long overdue return to the Piper, with a full band in tow, after a barnstorming night last October with the Long Ryders. They take the classic boy/girl ballad, add a touch of country music, sweet harmony and a good yarn, feed it through their own left-field filter, and produce something very much their own, which has been captivating music fans for more years than Morton Valence care to remember. They were once described in the Guardian as being, "the most intriguing band on these shores" and have collaborated with BJ Cole, Alabama 3, the Long Ryders, the Band of Holy Joy and many others. They have made films, one of which was recently screened at the Doc n' Roll festival, created dance performances, toured extensively in the UK and Europe, had a BBC 'record of the week', and produced half-a-dozen or so critically acclaimed albums along the way. Yet they have always managed to somehow remain elusive, uncompromisingly doing their own thing, whatever way the wind happens to be blowing, consistently producing original music, witty and insightful songwriting, as well as putting on a captivating live show. You can divide the world into 2 types of people; people who have never heard of Morton Valence, and those who are fans, come along on June 26th for a rare live performance, whoever you are. Warmduscher + Borough Council

Warmduscher + Borough Council

3 Jul 2025 - 3 Jul 2025

When most bands get round to releasing album number five their sound, weighed down by expectation or having resorted to formula, has generally ossified. It might still sound good and fans will probably lap it up, but the days of adventure and exploration are quite often long gone. Warmduscher are not most bands. Rather than closing up shop, on album number five - the magical Too Cold To Hold - they are most determinedly opening up. Taking on board the repetitive and polyrhythmic grooves of gqom (an alluring South African take on house music), adding in a dash of hip hop flavours and even jazz, and then harnessing that to their punk-funk, disco pogo, it’s a spellbinding mix that results in their best and most ambitious album to date. You could say they - the wonderful 12-legged groove machine comprised of Clams Baker Jr., Benjamin Romans Hopcraft, Adam J. Harmer, Marley Mackey, Quinn Whalley, and Bleu Ottis Wright - were, in fact, just getting started. Presented by The Piper. This is an 18+ event
Heathen Apostles

Heathen Apostles

15 Jul 2025 - 29 Oct 2025

Born of the voices of past lives and baptized in the dust bowl dirt, the Gothic Americana music of the Heathen Apostles (Mather Louth \[Radio Noir\], Chopper Franklin \[The Cramps, Nick Curran & the Lowlifes\], Thomas Lorioux \[Kings of Nuthin’\] and Luis Mascaro) harkens back to a bygone chapter of American history. Using contrasting influences such as Bauhaus, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and The Pogues along with Howlin’ Wolf, Loretta Lynn (the band covers her classic Fist City) and Bessie Smith, the Heathen Apostles have created a style of music that at once conjures both angels and demons, and will enlighten a darkened soul. Gothic Americana is a genre that is fast taking hold around the world, in that it combines the sub-genres of gothic country & bluegrass, dark blues, murderfolk and depression-era jazz. The Heathen Apostles are amongst the first to inject all four into their incendiary music. This is an 18+ event

Bonnie Dobson& The Hanging Stars+ Equatorial Group
Bonnie Dobson & The Hanging Stars join forces with the album "Dreams" coming out this summer on Loose Music. The Canadian folk singer renowned for her purity of voice and composer of the ever-fresh ’Morning Dew’; once at the heart of Greenwich Village heyday when she sang at Gerdes Folk City with the likes of Paul Simon, and Bob Dylan. The UK’s premier purveyors of Cosmic Americana riding a wave of creativity and acclaim, with two successive classic albums Hollow Heart and On A Golden Shore. The spry octogenarian and the psychedelic cowboys proved a match ripe to be made. Since Bonnie’s reemergence, at Jarvis Cocker’s Meltdown, she’d been interacting with a host of London musicians, but when the Stars came onto her horizon she sensed she’d found the perfect accompanists for her new compositions. With no concrete plan they worked up a few songs, then went into Sean Read’s Famous Times to see what might happen. What might happen is now a forthcoming album with some new titles, notably the autobiographical ‘Dreams’ giving the lie to ‘Morning Dew’s finality, and opening up the future that former song closed down, an older favourite ‘Stay With Me Tonight’, and a revisit to Dino Valenti’s 60s anthem ‘Get Together’. Tyla's Dogs D'amour

Tyla's Dogs D'amour

18 Sept 2025 - 16 Nov 2025

Tyla J. Pallas is an English musician, artist and poet. He first made a name for himself in the late 80’s with rock n’ roll band The Dogs D’Amour. He has since released a prolific succession of albums and toured the world over as a solo artist. As well as being an accomplished songwriter, Tyla is equally well known for his distinct painting style that has adorned his album covers from the beginning As out of control as rock n’ roll was in the late 80’s, few artists could top the levels of debauchery and excess achieved by England’s own Dogs D’Amour. Led by singer, guitarist, songwriter and poet Tyla J. Pallas, the group’s albums became cult favourites in their homeland and beyond. Originally formed by Tyla in London in 1983, he has been joined by various line-ups over the years. The Dogs are regarded as one of the best underground rock bands of their time with their bluesy, heartfelt, sing-along anthems and ramshackle style. Since then, frontman Tyla J. Pallas has continued to record many albums and tour, keeping the Dogs legacy alive. As well as being an accomplished songwriter, he is a published author and equally well known for his distinct artwork. Still alive and kicking. Still incendiary. Still stirring up conflict with his art, music, live performances and writing. A 21st century poet. A modern day troubadour. A travelling man whose home is where his he(art) is.

Danny And The Champions Of The World

27 Nov 2025 - 27 Nov 2025

‘You Are Not A Stranger Here,’ the long-awaited new album by Danny & The Champions of the World, will be released through Loose on 18th October. Their seventh studio release and first since 2017’s ‘Brilliant Light,’ ‘You Are Not A Stranger Here’ is the sound of a band exploring new and surprising musical terrain. Produced by Champs keyboard player Thomas Collison and featuring frontman Danny George Wilson’s most compelling songs to date. The old contradiction that in creating something intensely personal, you can share something inspiringly universal, is at the heart of a remarkable new album by Danny & the Champions of the World, whose formidable body of work dates back to 2007. It's full of brilliantly cohesive performances that come together to reach a new creative peak, founded on the most reflective and deep-seated lyrics to date by frontman Danny George Wilson. It's an intricate and beguiling tapestry of highly-crafted sounds by a band at the top of their game and a songwriter on an honest and unpretentious quest for some truth. If that sounds potentially dark and doom-laden, the results are anything but, on a record that's deeply relatable, infectious and moving. Presented by The Piper. This is an 18+ event

Visualise a mysterious venue in an unmarked spot in an unnamed city. A place that draws in runaways, strays and the misfits. Inside, characters slink around looking for the night of their lives; they loudly bemoan lost lovers, and perish from ugly feelings. All that happens against the neon lights and thick velvet curtains, is thrilling, sometimes gnarly and unpleasant, but relief and sanctuary from the outside world is always on offer. Music by Picture Parlour fills the air. From the howling introduction of “Cielo Drive” to the seductive garage band sass of “Who’s There To Love Without You?,” Katherine Parlour on smokey lead vocals and guitar and Ella Risi on instinctive lead guitar pull you deeper into their terrain. Welcome to The Parlour, a surreal world shaped by working class Northern Soul culture and 70s rock ‘n’ roll, and crafted by two future stars. It’s rare for a band to experience a journey of Greek epic proportions before even releasing their debut album. But-driven by a spirit of innocent exploration and buoyed by their lucky breaks-that’s exactly what happened to Picture Parlour. This Northern duo-Katherine from the Blue side of Liverpool, Ella from the White side of Yorkshire-boasts one of the most fascinating origin stories in the music industry in years. Having weathered a baptism by fire, they’re now ready to release a classic rock album on Island/EMI Label Group that fuses Marc Bolan’s flair with Joan Jett’s grit-full of bite, raw energy, and undeniable style.
