The Place
A centre for contemporary dance uniting dance training, creation and performance in one space. The venue hosts dance classes for adults and children, vocational training as part of London Contemporary Dance School and is home to touring company Richard Alston Dance Company. The in-house theatre, the Robin Howard Dance Theatre, presents over 200 performances a year, including a new year platform season Resolution!, and Spring Loaded, a season of works by independent UK artists supported by The Place.
The nearest tube stations to The Place are Euston and King's Cross St Pancras, where there are also car parks. There are metered parking spaces in the roads around The Place and reserved spaces for Blue Badge holders outside each entrance.

What is it about the beginning that remains intoxicating - our persistent lust for the first rush of a romance, scene, canon, theory, relationship, meal or country?
Created by Bundjalung and Ngapuhi dance artist Amrita Hepi and theatre-maker Mish Grigor, Rinse explores the romance of beginnings and what happens next, when the initial thrills begin to fade and inertia takes over.
Hepi’s electric performance questions whether being on the brink of extinction – a series of endings of various kinds – has intensified the seduction of the past. By recreating an entropic origin myth on stage, Rinse travels from end to ending, weaving together autobiographical elements with the grand narratives of art, feminism, dance, the void, desire, popular culture and colonial history.
An intimate yet epic solo performance based on a dynamic improvisational score, Rinse expands Hepi’s fascination with hybridity under empire and contemporary dance’s fixation with the “neutral” body.
Vulture / Eve by Ching Ying-Chien

A double-bill from internationally acclaimed Taiwanese choreographer, movement director and dance artist, Ching-Ying Chien, combining her first solo show Vulture (2018) with a new piece, Eve.
Drawing inspiration from a Tibetan myth: a vulture, sensing its end, flies into the sun to melt away. Echoing the Greek myth of Icarus, Vulture explores Ching-Ying Chien’s own experiences with loss, underscoring life’s uncontrollable nature and our human limitations. As a dancer, she finds freedom within the human frame, transitioning between animal and human states as she delves into life’s inherent limitations and profound freedoms.
Eve reimagines the creation myth, imagining Adam and Eve reborn after civilisation has collapsed, undone by technology. The piece explores humanity’s journey from primordial unity to individual emergence, moving from innocence to a pivotal awakening where past knowledge and desires unfold. Does humanity, stripped of technology, return to a simpler state? Eve is an invitation to contemplate our origins and enduring essence.
