Immerse yourself in a world where sight is not assumed. Half Light tells the story of a mother and her son, of a storm and a sunrise, love, protection, and the difficult art of letting go. It invites you to awaken your senses and tune into a reality where movement is revealed in sound. Part biographical, part fiction, Half Light draws upon Holly Thomas’ lived experience of visual impairment and parenting, to unmask a multi-generational story about the courage it takes to send your child into a world that may not always understand. Designed to be experienced without the need for separate Audio Description, Half Light is performed in the softly- lit round, where dance and storytelling merge with textural, multi-located sound design. Dance like everyone is listening.

National Dance Company Wales presents a triple-bill of bold new works, inviting you to journey through time and imagination. From ancient mythology to futuristic sci-fi, each piece blends stunning choreography with striking design to transport you to new worlds. A quiet moment becomes epic in Infinity Duet, a unique collaboration between choreographer Faye Tan and artist Cecile Johnson Soliz, as a swinging sculpture takes centre stage and dancers make warm, soulful movements to explore weight and time. Precision meets surrealism in Marcos Morau’s Waltz, where glittering, otherworldly beings move across a stark white landscape. A dystopian sci-fi adventure into chaos and control, this acclaimed work has captivated audiences across Europe and been hailed as “utterly compelling” by The Times. Finally, be transported on a quest to discover Mabon by Osian Meilir. Inspired by the legendary Mabinogion, this vivid re-imagining takes you deep into ancient Wales to encounter the world’s oldest animals. Blending fantastical costumes, wild choreography, and haunting new music by Welsh triple harpist Cerys Hafana. There will be a post-show talk following this performance, hosted by National Dance Company Wales' Rehearsal Director, Victoria Roberts.

A new Kathak dance-theatre from choreographer Amina Khayyam explores the conditioned patriarchy enforced by women, binding generations in a cycle of control. Set in contemporary inner-city marginalised migrant communities, and loosely based on Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba, the story follows Bibi Rukiya, a widow who confines her three daughters in response to societal pressure to protect her family’s reputation and secure their marriages. Her daughters react in different ways - one of them, driven by her own aspirations, challenges her mother’s motives and role as a woman.

Join Ella Mesma and Akeim Toussaint Buck for a vibrant evening inspired by their new show, as part of Bloomsbury Festival 2025. Enter the world of Ọkan in a rich celebration of culture, community and connection in this one-off evening takeover of The Place, with performances, workshops and conversations unfolding across different spaces. The programme includes: A behind-the-scenes exhibition exploring the influences of salsa, Wing Chun, and Yoruba culture in Ella and Akeim’s research A social salsa class open to all — whether you're a total beginner or a seasoned dancer! A movement workshop delving into rhythms and creative expression A live performance extract from Ọkan An Afro-Latin DJ set in The Place bar Come along to move, watch, connect and celebrate the power of art, dance, and community. Exhibition opens from 7pm on Sat 18 Oct. The first salsa class starts at 7:30pm.

What is it about the beginning that remains intoxicating - our persistent lust for the first rush of a romance, scene, canon, theory, relationship, meal or country? Created by Bundjalung and Ngapuhi dance artist Amrita Hepi and theatre-maker Mish Grigor, Rinse explores the romance of beginnings and what happens next, when the initial thrills begin to fade and inertia takes over. Hepi’s electric performance questions whether being on the brink of extinction – a series of endings of various kinds – has intensified the seduction of the past. By recreating an entropic origin myth on stage, Rinse travels from end to ending, weaving together autobiographical elements with the grand narratives of art, feminism, dance, the void, desire, popular culture and colonial history. An intimate yet epic solo performance based on a dynamic improvisational score, Rinse expands Hepi’s fascination with hybridity under empire and contemporary dance’s fixation with the “neutral” body.

Liam Francis Dance Company debuts with Alchemy: a deeply personal double bill exploring identity, community, and transformation. In Lyre Liar, the former Rambert dancer and Dance Europe ‘Dancer of the Year’ nominee, Liam Francis traverses his journey through dance; with excerpts pieces by Merce Cunningham, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Kate Prince. With vulnerability and wit, he unpacks the complexities of shifting identities, the toll it takes, and the questions it leaves behind. The dynamic and intimate trio A Body of Rumours, is a celebration of music, movement, and brotherhood. Three young Black men—linked by rhythm, trust, and shared histories—move through a choreography that draws from ballet, hip hop, and contemporary forms. Set to live electronic music by Chloe Mason, A Body of Rumours traces a journey from the tensions of isolation, competition and comparison, to the joy of connection and the beauty of bodies moving in harmony.

This visually arresting and deeply moving production tells the story of a community suddenly confronted by the immense power of wind and waves, awakening a heightened awareness of how far they have drifted from nature. Tjimur Dance Theatre, Taiwan’s premiere contemporary dance company dedicated to exploring and expressing the identity of the indigenous Paiwan people, embarks on its first UK tour. Choreographed by Baru Madiljin, bulabulay mun? / how are you? draws on the historic Mudan shipwreck incident of 1874 – a traumatic chapter in Taiwanese history, to reflect on the relationship between human actions and their unforeseen consequences. Through an interplay of traditional Mudan songs and dance, bulabulay mun? seeks to heal historical wounds and revive ancestral memory, embodying the resilience and spirit of the Paiwan people. At its heart is a poetic meditation on our elemental connection to the world, an invitation to attune our senses and rediscover our place within nature. Part of Dance Umbrella Festival 2025.

Have you ever wondered what’s below the surface? Little M is a reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid for anyone who feels like they're swimming against the tide. Little M and their friend Punk the Puffer Fish find a suitcase filled with mysterious treasures, leading them to wonder about the ‘world above’. With their questions met by silence under the sea, they embark on an epic adventure intro the wondrous worlds above the waves and deep down below. Fantastical puppetry, magical transformations and spectacular dance all combine to tell this extraordinary coming-of-age story. Little M brings a celebration of difference and acceptance for everyone aged eight and above, choreographed and co-directed by Anders Duckworth, and written and co-directed by Luke Skilbeck.
