Peter Bruntnell

Peter Bruntnell

9 May 2025 - 10 Jun 2025

The singer-songwriter performs his original material. Rolling Stone once declared Peter Bruntnell to be, “one of England's best kept musical secrets”. England has successfully managed to keep Peter Bruntnell a secret for all this time, even from itself. “Maybe this will be the album to finally give him the worldwide superstar recognition he deserves!”, enthused every other Peter Bruntnell album review from the last 20+ years, with an admirably unwavering optimism. “If we lived in a just world, Peter Bruntnell would by now be in the middle of his third or fourth global arena tour, his biggest worry working out how to courier his latest armful of Grammy awards back to the UK so his butler could have them installed in the west wing of mansion by the time he got home,” said a feature in The Guardian in 2016, intent on letting the cat out of the bag, but failing miserably. Needless to say, we don’t live in a just world and Peter Bruntnell is still having to get by without a butler. Needless to say, we don’t live in a just world and Peter Bruntnell is still having to get by without a butler. Not even 2021’s primarily solo, slightly synthy lockdown album Journey To The Sun succeeded in putting an end to Peter's non-success, despite Mojo echoing the plea that, “Somehow, some way, this cult and infinitely class songwriter must get his due wider recognition”. The Scottish Daily Express with its 5 star review, slightly frustrated, said, or perhaps yelled, “I’m getting tired of saying this: He’s brilliant”. The Irish Times thoughtfully combined two quotes into one, saving us the trouble of going back and getting crushed under the sheer weight of Peter’s archive of press quotes: “With Journey To The Sun, the man whose songs NME once noted should be placed on school curriculums has done it again.” And he continues to do so. Peter’s forthcoming new album, Houdini And The Sucker Punch will do little to dispel this fantasy of world domination, but it remains unlikely to become in any way a reality. He will remain the secret singer-songwriter, lauded by the likes of Rumer, Son Volt/Uncle Tupelo's Jay Farrar, Kathleen Edwards, Richmond Fontaine/The Delines' Willy Vlautin, Kurt Wagner of Lampchop and various members of R.E.M.

Ruarri Joseph

Ruarri Joseph

10 Jul 2025 - 18 Jul 2025

After a remarkable decade with the indie rock trio William the Conqueror, frontman Ruarri Joseph is returning to his roots with a series of solo performances under his own name. This marks his first solo appearance in 12 years, offering fans a rare opportunity to experience the intimate, stripped-back performances that launched his career. Born in Edinburgh and raised in New Zealand, Joseph's musical journey began in the UK, where he gained recognition as a solo artist with four albums released between 2007 and 2013. In 2015, he co-founded the band/art project William the Conqueror. The band received critical acclaim for their fusion of bluesy grunge and Americana with anthemic British alt-rock, drawing comparisons to acts like Kings of Leon and Nirvana and touring world wide to this day. This upcoming solo tour offers a unique chance to witness Joseph's evolution as an artist, revisiting the raw, heartfelt performances that defined his early work. It's a celebration of his musical roots and a testament to his enduring passion for connecting with audiences in an intimate setting. A500 Music aim to present quality live music in a friendly and intimate environment. HANNAH WHTE (full band)

HANNAH WHTE (full band)

8 May 2025 - 8 May 2025

Hannah White began 2023 standing on the winner's podium at the Americana Music Association UK Awards, as a hugely popular winner for UK Song of the Year with the goosebump-inducing 'Car Crash.' But the London-based singer-songwriter is one of those artists who is always about the next thing, and the year will culminate in the release of a completely fresh adventure in her fast-expanding career: the exciting new album Sweet Revolution. The record expands hugely on the outstanding song craft and Americana noir ambience of 2022's widely-praised About Time, of which Maverick wrote: The emotion she conveys in her vocal delivery gives you chills as her words tug at your heart strings. Acoustic magazine called White arresting and wholly believable. A voice you will want to protect and become besotted with, while W21 Music wrote of the restraint, the range, the softness, the clarity...a masterpiece." Indeed, when Deacon Blue's Ricky Ross heard the album's breezy, country-leaning track 'Broken Bird,' he was not only moved to play it immediately on his BBC Radio Scotland show, but to invite Hannah to open on his 2022 solo tour. They became fast friends, and long lines of new converts waiting to meet Hannah and buy her music at each show were testament to her persuasive performing talents. Follow all that, you might say, and she is. The opening single from the new album, 'Chains Of Ours,' is infectious with a percussive mood winning comparisons to a modern-day Fleetwood Mac. Both single and album are produced by Michele Stodart of the Magic Numbers, and the full-length, due in November, will delight new and existing fans, including the thousands who will see White with husband and guitarist Keiron Marshall as special guests on Paul Carrack's autumn UK tour. Ahead of that, she and the band were delighting audiences throughout festival season at Black Deer, Glastonbury, The Long Road Festival and more. All of that is a long way, and yet a short hop, from Sidcup, where Hannah was born and started picking up instruments at an early age. I played piano and violin, she says. I got to learn because our borough gave free music lessons to families on benefits. I first picked up a guitar because my cousin had one and showed me a few chords. Although I couldnt do much on it, I ended up playing it more than the other instruments because of how portable it was and great to write with. White remains passionately committed to the idea of music as a force for good, and it's that genuine belief, which reaches far beyond her own musical ambitions. Music has such a power over me, she says. It's got me through some of the darkest times and I don't know what I'd be doing without it. I feel so strongly that if everybody had that opportunity, so many people's lives could be transformed. It's that down-to-earth sincerity that is stamped on Hannah's personality just as it is on her music. When people talk about her songs, they talk about her combination of autobiographical honesty, social conscience and joyful musicality, and that conversation is getting louder all the time.
The Deep Dark Woods ( solo )

The Deep Dark Woods ( solo )

6 May 2025 - 18 May 2025

After a stunning show in Scarborough in May a,welcome return to the area for Deep Dark Woods solo ( Ryan Boldt ) To think of the Deep Dark Woods as a band steeped in capital-T tradition, and that may be true, but now nearly two decades into their life as one of Canada's finest folk-roots ensembles, that tradition is one of their own invention. The voice of founding member Ryan Boldt sits at the forefront of the band, and it doesn't take long to reveal that he is a master of subtlety and shading, working in the lineage of iconic singers like Bob Dylan, Bert Jansch, Rick Danko, and Jason Molina. Boldt, a relentless lifelong listener of music, says It's all I do. When I'm not playing music, I'm listening to it, trying to find songs that make me feel an aching pain in my chest. Accordingly, his singing is full of highly emotive nuance and an elegant, relaxed precision that makes it seem downright effortless, a perfect vehicle for the band's particular brand of updated folk music. Fellow travellers like keyboard whiz Geoff Hilhorst, veteran drummer Mike Silverman, and Evan Cheadle round out the Deep Dark Woods unit, and they are often assisted by like-minded collaborators such as singer-songwriter Ellen Froese, Erik Nielsen, Leon Power, and the acclaimed duo Kacy & Clayton. This crew creates a powerful combination and has amassed a pile of celebrated albums, EPs, and a host of nominations from music awards outfits from across the country. Together they recall classic units like The Band, mid-period Wilco, and American Beauty-era Grateful Dead, but also legendary late '60s UK groups like Fairport Convention, Pentangle, and Steeleye Span. Which brings us to the Deep Dark Woods' latest album, Broadside Ballads, Vol.III. Intertwined amongst their albums of original material, Deep Dark Woods has been steadily building up a series of releases called Broadside Ballads, focusing on traditional Irish, English, and Scottish folk songs. It's a fitting tribute to the music that influenced Boldt's writing and singing since first forming the band, and like their forebears, Deep Dark Woods aims to take their own experiences of traditional music and create something new and vital. The songs in this collection mine some of the more brutal depths of human experience, touching on broken hearts, love, murder, and the act of leaving. Boldt notes that there are not too many jolly songs in there, but the album is not a dour affair, instead benefiting from tasteful, unstated arrangements and an organic, no- frills recording sound. The songs on Vol.III generously display The Deep Dark Woods' deep-seated links to the past while still sounding just like themselves. A brand new album of original music recorded by David Parry (Loving, Alice Phoebe Lou) will be released in 2025.
