Homo(sapien)

Homo(sapien)

13 Feb 2026 - 14 Feb 2026

Joey is a Bad Gay. He can’t get into Drag Race, he’s never tried poppers and he’s never had sex with a man, and that’s the most important thing about being gay (right?) But tonight is the night, and he is determined to make sure he will not die a virgin. Filled with Catholic guilt, internalised homophobia and fear of the local GAA lads, Joey embarks on a hapless quest to ‘get his hole’ before it’s too late. Homo(sapien) debut play from Conor O’Dwyer, an Irish playwright and performer based in Edinburgh.

Manipulate Festival: Raft of the Crab
The Raft of the Crab is a bold and deeply human new performance by the witty and charming circus artist Ninon Noiret, exploring her experience of being diagnosed with, and recovering from cancer in 2018. Created in collaboration with celebrated Scottish puppeteer Gavin Glover, the show seamlessly blends puppetry, contemporary dance, spoken text and Chinese pole, Ninon and her alter egos navigate the highs and lows of their shared odyssey. Following a hugely popular appearance at Manipulate Festival’s 2023 Snapshots , we’re thrilled to present the World Premiere of The Raft of the Crab – a show that is as warm, witty, and charming as its creator. A genre-defying journey through pain, perseverance and play, told with rare honesty and theatrical imagination. Produced in association with the Beacon Arts Centre.
Sailmaker

Sailmaker

19 Mar 2026 - 21 Mar 2026

Sailmaker is a poignant, poetic, and deeply human play that tells the story of father and son Davie and Alec, and their changing relationship as they struggle with shared loss. As they struggle with the recent loss of Alec’s mother, and Davie’s wife – t he play follows their diverging paths across the following decade, as academically gifted Alec pursues education and religion, distancing himself from his working-class background, while Davie succumbs to grief, unemployment, and apathy. Eternally at the heart of their relationship is the broken model yacht that Davie never fulfilled his promise to fix – and everything this comes to symbolise. First performed in 1982, Sailmaker is a set text for National 5 English. It remains a powerful and resonant piece for audiences of all ages. The Gaiety is excited to revive Sailmaker for new audiences in association with Beacon Arts Centre, embarking on a Scottish tour concluding at The Gaiety.
