Trainspotting

Trainspotting

10 May 2025 - 17 May 2025

Dive headfirst into the gritty and pulsating world of Trainspotting, Harry Gibsons electrifying stage adaptation of Irvine Welshs iconic novel. Relocated to 1980s Manchester, this raw and unflinching drama follows a group of friends as they navigate the highs and harrowing lows of heroin addiction. At the centre of the chaos is Mark Renton, whose sharp wit and dark humour provide a stark commentary on the despair and disillusionment that pervades their lives. The play captures the visceral energy and anarchic spirit of Welshs original work, immersing the audience in a whirlwind of frenzied nights, drug-fuelled escapades, and moments of brutal reality. Rentons journey is one of struggle and fleeting triumphs, as he grapples with the pull of addiction and the desire for a better life. Alongside him are his friends: the charming yet reckless Sick Boy, the artsy and troubled Alison, and the confident ladies' man Tommy, each vividly portrayed with depth and authenticity. This new adaptation of the prequel Skagboys and Trainspotting is renowned for its dynamic staging and immersive experience, breaking the fourth wall and drawing the audience into the tumultuous world of its characters. The minimalist set and pulsating soundtrack create a relentless pace, mirroring the chaotic lives of the protagonists. Scenes shift seamlessly from darkly comic moments to starkly poignant ones, reflecting the rollercoaster of emotions faced by those caught in the grip of addiction. Trainspotting on stage is a gripping and unforgettable theatrical experience, offering a raw and unfiltered look at the struggles of addiction and the search for redemption. With its powerful performances and strikingly honest portrayal of life on the edge, this production is a must-see for anyone seeking a night of bold and impactful theatre. With content warnings understandably advised, this is a visceral and hard-hitting adaptation which will leave you profoundly moved. Dont miss it! Larry - GALA NIGHT

Larry - GALA NIGHT

14 Jun 2025 - 14 Jun 2025

Presented by Summerseat Players in association with Feather Productions Ltd, LARRY is a dynamic new play celebrating the life and times of the much-loved, much-missed comedian Larry Grayson. Written by BAFTA and Olivier award-winning playwright Tim Whitnall, this inventive, hilarious, often surprising work reveals how Larry unable to sing, dance, or act perfected a unique comic style to become an undisputed national treasure. From his humble beginnings as a baby born out of wedlock, the drama charts Larrys showbiz odyssey from his childhood performances atop an upturned tin bath, via his years as a trail-blazing drag artiste, through his acclaimed shows at the London Palladium, an eventually into the hearts of 20 million TV viewers as the host of BBCs The Generation Game. On reaching the top of his game Larry recalled: I was being called an overnight star, but it had taken me 95 years to get there! LARRY is a tale of subterranean lows and stratospheric highs, reflecting on the beauty of our dreams and the power of our determination. It also lifts the lid on its subjects two most significant interpersonal relationships: the unassailable bond that Larry shared with his stepsister, and the one-and-only romance he ever knew; a love story that would end in tragedy, profoundly affecting him for the rest of his life. Reluctant to publicly discuss his own sexuality, Larry would incur the ire of the Gay Liberation Front, a stand-off which culminated in a feisty summit between both sides in the mid-70s. For three decades of his career Larrys sexual orientation defined him under archaic British law as a criminal, an injustice scarring many gay men of his generation, desperate to protect and preserve both their professional and personal lives. By revisiting those dark and distant days, LARRY highlights how perceptions in regard to LGBTVQI+ issues have since changed dramatically. LARRY introduces us to its star in early 1995 as he embarks on a fantastical journey which gifts him the opportunity to perform one last time: a challenge that he not only relishes but also one to which he will rise spectacularly. Featuring a multi-talented cast, LARRY invites you to join the comedy legend as he opens that door on the most momentous performance he will ever give.
