Theatre Royal, Drury Lane
It's the oldest theatre in London, and proud of it; there has been a Theatre Royal Drury Lane sine 1683, although the current building is a mere 200 years old. It's been visited by every monarch since the Restoration, and has not one but two royal boxes, just in case a bunch of them turn up. It's fostered the careers of legendary performers such as David Garrick, Edmund Kean, Joseph Grimaldi, Sarah Siddons, Dan Leno, Ivor Novello and Noel Coward. Oklahoma!, South Pacific and The King and I all made their London debuts here, and in recent years it's hosted 42nd Street, Miss Saigon, and The Producers. It's also a music and comedy venue and, not surprisingly, a Grade I listed building. Ironically, the main entrance has never been on Drury Lane itself; the current building faces onto Catherine Street.
The nearest Tube stations are Covent Garden (Piccadilly) and Holborn (Piccadilly / Central). The theatre's served by bus routes 1, 4, 11, 13, 15, 23, 26, 59, 68, 76, 91, 139, 168, 171, 176, 188, 243, 341 and 521.
