The List

Trades Club

A socialist members club and music venue which has attracted some pretty stellar names over the years: Patti Smith, Marc Almond, Thurston Moore, Robyn Hitchcock, The Fall, Martha Wainwright . . . Food is supplied by various enterprising local pop-ups and the bar shows all premiership games it can on the 42-inch screen in the bar. The venue is also a committed community hub, hosting political events and fundraisers. Membership isn't expensive and confers many benefits, including discount prices for concerts and drinks at the bar. The members own and run the club, electing its committee.

Mark Thomas: 40 in Stand Up Years

Mark Thomas: 40 in Stand Up Years

25 Jun 2026 - 13 Dec 2026

What?! Mark Thomas has been ‘standing up’ for 40 years? Impossible!! But how old does that make you…? Alas it is true; one of our oldest surviving alternative comics celebrates 40 years at the mic as he takes his brand-new show on the road this autumn. So, here’s what he has done so far in numbers; performed comedy for 40 years, won 8 awards for performing, 4 for human rights work and 1 he invented for himself, made 6 series of the Mark Thomas Comedy Product (Channel 4), written 6 books and 5 play scripts, made 5 series of the Manifesto for Radio 4, made 3 Dispatches for Channel 4, sued the police (and won) 3 times, curated and authored 2 art exhibitions with artist Tracey Moberly and had 1 Guinness World Record for holding 20 protests in 24 hours. If that’s not enough, he’s also walked 724km around the length of the Israel Wall in the West Bank, been credited with changing the law on tax avoidance, started a comedy club in Palestine with Dr Sam Beale and campaigned successfully for things like trade union recognition for cinema workers and getting multinationals to change their practices. You’re right, there’s more, but your attention is running out and we’re running out of space. So, let’s just say he’s generally mucked about trying to have fun and upset the right people…which he is really, really good at. This is a taster menu of political and personal mayhem, jokes, rants and a state of the nation broadcast as he tries to turn ‘what the hell is going on’ into a cogent evening of stand-up.

Bob Log III

Bob Log III

9 Aug 2026 - 15 Aug 2026

When Bob Log III was a child, he lost his left hand in a boating accident. It was soon replaced with a monkey paw, and a new guitar style was born. 'It's my own personal style, see,' Log says, 'the paw moves much quicker than a normal hand, so my real hand has to flop around a lot to compensate.'" Bob Log III, one man band crown prince of punk blues from Tuscon, Arizona. Witnessing Bob Log live is an unmissable and unforgettable experience. By rights he should be a punk blues stadium super star. He takes to the stage with his face masked in a crash helmet with a black visor and a telephone wired in it for a mic and wearing a blue jump suit. Bob then unleashes a torrent of hardcore Mississippi Delta blues, hip hop beats and punk rock. The crash helmet telephone distorts the vocals and his hands, arms, legs and feet become a blur of jump suit clad limbs as he plays slide, triggers drum machines and drums with his feet simultaneously. Bob then adds extra ingredients to this punk blues bouillabaisse with his unique version of audience participation. More often them not he’ll bounce a couple of audience members on his knees while playing, and then bring on the infamous Boob Scotch. The audience are invited to literally stick their boob in his scotch which he then drinks. If Bob feels satisfied, he will then launch into his anthem Boob Scotch! Everyone has to look out when the rubber dinghy makes an appearance.

Double-Bill: Bourgeois & Maurice Everythings Fine / Khandan Family: The Shame
Its a Happy Valley Pride show bonanza, two for the price of one. First up: Dhamaka Arts present KHANDAN Family: The Shame Generation. Written and performed by Sid Akbar Every sip of tea takes you somewhere new Sid Akbar's solo show travels through time, memory and belonging -- drawn from his own experience of growing up queer in a Pakistani Muslim family in Bradford. From fear in his Mum's cosy kitchen to hope in a sparse Manchester bedsit, join Captain Sid's continuing voyage of self-discovery. "The Wrath of Khandan" explores family duty, clouds of shame, queer spaces that feel like home and the complicated truth that the chosen family can hurt you too. Funny, tender and bracingly honest, this is a story of love. A queer South Asian story. A Bradford story. Honestly, a bit of everyone's story. Our second show of the night is Bourgeois & Maurice Everythings Fine Theyve been part of our festival since the second year back in 2017 and, after what feels like eons, theyre back! Yes, cult-cabaret stars Bourgeois & Maurice return to Happy Valley Pride for a new night of glamour-soaked nihilism and anarchic musical comedy.Known for original, razor-sharp satirical songs with a gleefully dark edge, the critically-acclaimed duo present brand spanking new material (and some old faves) for a riotous musical journey through the state of the world - frivolous, unhinged, and impeccably doomed.Their unique brand of pop-satire and far-fetched fashion, has won them legions of fans around the world. From New York to Kettering, from an ex-public toilet to the Royal Opera House, it doesnt matter to them as long as theres a piano to bash, a lick of clear mascara to apply and a (semi) willing audience watching.Come for the laughs. Stay for the darkness. Leave humming something you probably shouldnt. Modern-day Music Hall stars The Guardian Absurdly ingenious, clever, spiky and humane The Scotsman ★★★★★
