She Drew The Gun

Over three studio albums and nearly a decade, Wirral-born Louisa Roach has built She Drew The Gun into a project that fully lives up to its incendiary name. A place for Roach to explore a visceral musical world informed by influences ranging 80's electronica, hip-hop, political poetry, and cosmic scouse psychedelia epitomised by hometown heroes The Coral (whose lead singer James Skelly took her under his wing during She Drew The Guns early days), lyrically its found her taking aim at the wild injustices she was persistently seeing in the world at large, decrying corrupt conservative governments and rallying for a more empathetic way of living.

Moonchild Sanelly

Moonchild Sanelly

3 Aug 2025 - 7 Oct 2025

Determinedly doing things her own way and standing up for what she believes in has long been ingrained in the psyche of trailblazing South African musician Moonchild Sanelly, whose drive to succeed has been fuelled by personal pain and trauma. Growing up in Port Elizabeth with a hip-hop producer brother and a mum who would put her onstage from a young age to compete in dance competitions, Sanelisiwe Twishas music-filled childhood was full of creativity. Whether it was self-choreographing dance routines to Spice Girls tracks, teaching herself to play the piano, singing at church with her family, or starting to write poetry, expression and being artistically free was always encouraged.

Growing up as a female of colour who would later in her life unearth and embrace her queerness, discussing and reconciling who she is with the perception of who people think she should be, has become a lifelong mission for Mia.

Miso Extra

Miso Extra

19 Jun 2025 - 19 Jun 2025

Since the release of her debut single, “Adventures of Tricky N Duke”, the Japanese- British singer and producer has made her signature an instinctually infectious journey through everything from tongue-in-cheek rap to sultry R&B, tuned-up hyperpop and dancefloor electronica, with each wandering sound guided by her expert ear. Miso has garnered acclaim for her playful dual-language lyrics, languorously flowing over debut EP Great Taste and the critically acclaimed follow-up MSG, and she has also performed with the likes of fellow musical experimenters Thundercat, Marc Rebillet and Rejjie Snow. Yet, it’s the release of her debut album, Earcandy, that now cements her status as an irrepressible and confident new talent, capable of transforming the exciting, spontaneous moment of creation into delight for the ears. Across 12 tracks, co-produced by Miso herself and featuring collaborations from DJ Boring, Metronomy, AK Paul, Samo, Tyson and MICHELLE, Miso takes us on a journey of lovelorn vulnerability, growth and self-empowerment, traversing the K-Pop and UK Garage references of the earworming “POP” to the lovesick lyricism and bass-heavy R&B beats of “Good Kisses”, synth-house swing of “Certified”, and reverb-laden ‘80s melodics of “Ghostly”. “I wanted to make a self-aware pop record, full of the songs I’d want to listen to when I was growing up,” she says. “It’s about growing through your mistakes and not being afraid to get things wrong. There are some deep messages in there but it’s surrounded by sweet earcandy – that spoonful of sugar that helps the medicine go down.” If you have any queries or would like more information about access at Village Underground, please see our FAQs here: https://bit.ly/3EhSLgF, or contact [email protected]. Bcuc + K.o.g

3 Jul 2025 - 3 Jul 2025

BCUC: Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness. Indigenous funk, hiphop consciousness and punk rock energy from Soweto, South Africa. From humble beginnings, rehearsing in a shipping container a stone’s throw from the church where Desmond Tutu organised the escape of the most wanted anti-Apartheid activists of Soweto, BCUC have grown to become one of the world’s most celebrated bands, playing the biggest stages at some of the most important festivals in the world: Glastonbury West Holts, Roskilde, Afropunk Brooklyn, Dour, Worldwide, Womad, Fusion, Sziget, FMM Sines, Beaches Brew, Boomtown, Colours of Ostrava, Couleur Café. Like its elders, Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness sees its music as a hedonistic trance, but also as a weapon of political and spiritual liberation. 2023 even saw them win the prestigious Womex Artist Award, an accolade usually reserved for much older artists, in recognition of their fearless work ethic and prodigiously transformational live shows. The seven-piece band has been mesmerising audiences both locally and globally with its indigenous funk and high-energy performances that have fast made it one of South Africa’s most successful musical exports. Artistic heirs to Philip “Malombo” Tabane and Batsumi, they give contemporary voice to the ancestral traditions of indigenous peoples. Jazz sounds of 1970s and ‘80s productions replaced by hip-hop influences and punk-rock energy, taking the listener on an intriguing epic journey, sharing their controversial yet interesting views on modern Africa. They tackle the harsh realities of the voiceless, especially the plight of the uneducated workers at the bottom of the social food chain. BCUC taps into the elusiveness of the spirit world of ancestors by which they are inspired. The Africa portrayed by BCUC is not poor, but rich in tradition, rituals and beliefs. “We bring fun and emo-indigenous Afro psychedelic fire from the hood,” says vocalist Kgomotso Mokone. Kweku Sackey aka K.O.G (Kweku of Ghana) is a multi-dimensional creative force, combining exquisite writing skills with shamanistic live performance, fierce raps, perfectly on pitch singing across a massive vocal range and some absolutely wicked dance moves. Not to mention his skills as a percussionist, arranger, bandleader and art director. A true poet and storyteller, he uses a mix of English, Pidgin and Ga to paint sonic pictures that reach deep into the souls of everyone ready to listen. “I love to make music that CONNECTS, REVIVES , EDUCATES and ENTERTAINS, drawing on the spiritual, physical, emotional and mental well being of us as individuals and our quest to maintain balance with the universe.” Born in Accra, Ghana, to a nurse mother and marine engineer father who had studied in England, he grew up with a diverse range of international influences alongside Ghanaian styles: Tom Waits, Quincy Jones, Bob Marley, Sizzla, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Ebo Taylor, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Atongo Simba, George Clinton, Pavarotti, Warsaw Village Band. Resident for over 10 years in Sheffield, UK, music has taken him to perform on huge stages all over the world, from Glastonbury’s legendary West Holts stage to Fusion (Germany), Sauti Za Busara (Zanzibar), Kabardock (Reunion) and the Commonwealth Games (Gold Cost, Australia), winning the 2018 Young Commonwealth Performer and performing for Nelson Mandela’s family. A prolific writer and collaborator, he needs a range of projects to showcase the different sides of his unique talent. He is the lead vocalist for afro-futurist project Onipa (Strut Records, Wormfood) and hi-life/hiphop/funk band K.O.G (Heavenly Sweetness), as well as collaborating extensively with Nubiyan Twist; his song ‘If I know’ off the Freedom Fables album (Strut, March 2021) was performed live on Later with Jools Holland and A playlisted twice on BBC6 Music. Kweku is deeply aware of his heritage and of his role as an ambassador both through space and time, negotiating culturally both between African and Western influences and between the traditional and the modern: always open to new innovations and ideas while firmly rooted in a deep lineage. This openness has informed recent collaborations with a wide wide range of producers and writers, including Léon Phal, Jembaa Groove, Zed Bias, iZem, Afriquoi, Congo Natty, Scrimshire, Dark Sky, Dizraeli, Chiminyo, Umoja and many more in the pipeline. Third album on French label Heavenly Sweetness, produced by master French producer Guts (Alliance Ethnik) and longtime friend and collaborator Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, Onipa), will drop September 2024. Nação Zumbi celebrates three decades since the release of their iconic debut album Da Lama Ao Caos, a landmark in Brazilian music history, with an exclusive show after their sold out show at Jazz cafe last year. The group's debut album stunned the scene with a revolutionary new sound, with well-crafted energetic songs blending funk, rock, maracatu, embolada, psychedelia and African music; truly original. The album became one of the landmarks in the development of the Manguebeat Movement; a cultural movement rooted in the percussive traditions of maracatu and coco, joined by a profusion of influences, from rock to hip-hop, funk and electronica. The album was placed #13 in Rolling Stone’s list of ‘Best Brazilian Albums’. This celebratory show revisits the infectious rhythms that took manguebeat to the world, bringing the audience back to that heady era of the early 1990s. “Um grande show, comemorando um dos álbuns mais importantes da música brasileira.” (screamyell.com/br) “A great show, commemorating one of the most important albums in Brazilian music history” (screamyell.com/br) Presented by Columbo Music & Como No. This is a 16+ event.

King Stingray

King Stingray

21 Jun 2025 - 21 Jun 2025

King Stingray is a story of lifelong friendship. Growing up together in Yirrkala North-East Arnhem Land (a very remote Aboriginal community on in the northern tip of Australia) founding members Theo Dimathaya Burarrwanga(frontman) and Roy Kellaway (guitar) have been playing and making music together for as long as they can remember. Read more about their unique story here. The band blend ancient indigenous melodies (Yolŋu Manikay) with surf, indie and funk influences to create their unique “Yolŋu surf-rock” sound which has captivated the nation. Hailed as "one of the most exciting acts in the country today" (NME), King Stingray took out triple j's Unearthed Artist of the Year' J Award for 2021, NME Australia's 'Best New Act From Australia' and Rolling Stone Australia's 'Best New Artist' award all before an album was released. Their much-anticipated debut LP ‘King Stingray’ dropped in August 2022, supported by a typically cheeky campaign encouraging fans to take #kingstingday off to celebrate the album’s release. The band was nominated for a whopping five ARIA Awards (including a win for the ‘Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist’). In 2023 the band won the ‘Australian Music Prize.’ A total of five singles from the album made it into triple j’s Hottest 100 making it the second most successful Aussie debuts in the history of the countdown. With 2 albums under their belt now on the live front, the band hasn't missed a beat. They’ve toured all around the country playing all the major festivals such as Splendour in the Grass, Falls and Spilt Milk to name a few. They supported Midnight Oil on their national stadium tour and performed before more than 100,000 people at the MCG stadium during the AFL ‘Dreamtime at the G’ match. Every one of their headline tours has sold out entirely. 2024 ended with a 15 date support tour of the US with their mates King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard with and as 2025 is kicking off they are about to perform a massive theatre headline tour right across the country again with their sophomore album ‘For The Dreams’ . Everything Is Recorded

Everything Is Recorded

4 Nov 2025 - 4 Nov 2025

Richard Russell has introduced the world to several generation’s worth of era-defining musicians. But since 2017, the XL Recordings founder has used the Everything Is Recorded project to prove he’s not merely a visionary record producer, or the founder of the most consequential independent record label of the past 35 years. He’s a visionary artist in his own right, with a temperament so generous that his records are filled with the voices of the artists he’s encouraged, shepherded, or spotlit along the way. Everything Is Recorded albums are feasts of collaboration, and his soul-enriching new album, Temporary, is no exception. The guest list overflows with incandescent talent: Florence Welch, Sampha, Bill Callahan, Jah Wobble, Kamasi Washington, Nourished by Time, Alabaster DePlume, Noah Cyrus. The silvery thread linking all these voices together is, of course, Richard Russell himself, by design the least visible member of Everything Is Recorded, but the only one who could have dreamed up this expanse to begin with. Mark William Lewis

Mark William Lewis

28 Oct 2025 - 28 Oct 2025

Mark William Lewis is an artist that exists between the cracks. He eschews easy genre categorisation, plays with the traditional conventions of a songwriter, and creates music that is poetically sharp, visually vivid, yet texturally opaque. Writing songs that explore the intersection between intimacy and alienation, connection and disconnection, he is a singular and bold voice operating in a distinctly unique yet blurry space. His recent track ‘Tomorrow is Perfect’ is the first release via A24 Music, a song that feels like the purest embodiment of him as a complete artist to date, blurring the boundaries of imagery, music and words pushed to the forefront. Lewis has received praise from Pitchfork and The Fader for his previous releases Sparkles 22-24 and Living, as well as featuring on NYC rap figurehead MIKE’s “Let’s Have A Ball” and collaborating with Bar Italia’s Nina Crisante on the song “Thinner”. Over the past few years, Lewis has become a fixture in more innovative spaces of London’s live music scene, with his performances and music becoming a word-of-mouth success. This led to sold out US debut shows at Elsewhere and Public Records (NYC) and The Echo (LA) last year and a full headline show at a sold-out ICA earlier this year. He has previously released music via Scenic Route, with the vinyl release of joint EP ‘God Complex/Pleasure Is Everything’ selling out in under 24 hours. Qendresa

Qendresa

7 Dec 2025 - 9 Dec 2025

North West London's Qendresa is a multi-faceted singer, songwriter, producer and DJ. Her often self-produced, electronic tinged soul music pays homage to her affinity for the hip-hop and R&B that soundtracked her formative years, with inspiration coming from the grime golden era, the UK rap scene, as well as stalwarts like Sade and Mariah Carey. Co-signed by the likes of Lil Yachty and Daniel Kaluuya, Qendresa comes to embody the melting pot that is London. Whether her place as a result of the Kosovan diaspora or the position she’s carved out in the city’s music scene, she sits comfortably whether it’s gliding over a 808-laden track or floating over an 80’s R&B rhythm.
Water From Your Eyes

Water From Your Eyes

13 Nov 2025 - 18 Nov 2025

There's no perfect way to describe Water From Your Eyes, the New York duo composed of Nate Amos (he/him) and Rachel Brown (they/them). Both known independently for their solo work under the names This Is Lorelei and Thanks For Coming respectively, the pair have been together since 2016, and in that time they have developed a clear-eyed approach to forward-thinking dance music that combines austerity and satire, abrasion and charm in a package that is consistently innovative and unlike anything being made by their contemporaries in the Brooklyn DIY scene or outside of it. After a series of smaller releases the band made their mark in 2019 with the release of Somebody Else's Song, which earned praise from outlets like Stereogum, FLOOD, GoldFlakePaint and Pitchfork who declared that "wading through Water From Your Eyes' whims is a delight in itself, and discovering the unexpected loveliness buried within is especially worthwhile." Now they have signed to the beloved Brooklyn indie Wharf Cat Records (Palberta, Gong Gong Gong, Dougie Poole) for their latest LP Structure, and constitutes the most startling release in their catalogue to date. Delighting in contradiction, Structure is an ambitious LP that approaches its own impressive scope and aspiration with a tongue-in-cheek humor and a reflexive self-effacement that wonderfully reflects the personalities of its creators. Influenced by Scott Walker's sole 80s release, Climate of Hunter and the works of the colorfield painter Mark Rothko, it's a concept album that pokes fun of the idea of concept albums, exploring high-minded ideas while subverting them and applying a hyper-focused eye for detail in the service of a series of clever misdirections. When taken together Structure paints a picture too vast to be taken in at once, but repeated listens reveal melodic subtleties, rhythmic minutiae, and lyrical repetition that allow the whole to come into focus. Whether the lasting impression is concrete or abstract will depend on the listener's perspective, but from any vantage point Structure is a thrillingly original release and a first-class achievement in brutalist pop.

Erin Lecount

Erin Lecount

12 Sept 2025 - 12 Sept 2025

It’s been a while since an artist has emerged with the rare ability to pull listeners into a transfixing, intricate world quite like 21-year-old self-taught artist and producer, Erin LeCount. A visionary sonic architect, Erin’s baroque-pop arrangements, paired with diaristic lyrics and captivating synths, create an alluring interplay of vulnerability and strength. Songs like the viral hit “Silver Spoon” pulse with an electronic heart, exploring identity, relationships, and the meaning of life. The Covid-19 lockdown changed everything for Erin. At 17, she locked herself in her bedroom, learning to produce on Logic, writing songs, and posting them online. She signed with an independent label and began writing with other artists, but the experience reminded her of childhood pressures. Choosing to part ways with the label, Erin embraced total creative control, much like fellow singer-producers Grimes and Caroline Polachek. Now working with TaP Management (Lana Del Rey, Polachek), Erin’s music reflects both her raw, commanding energy and the influence of her mother’s ballet career. The beauty of Swan Lake, which played on repeat at home, has shaped her visuals and aesthetic sensibility. On her astonishing EP I Am Digital, I Am Divine, Erin’s dreamy and atmospheric production crafts complex real stories about her intimate relationships with herself and other people.
