Jackie-o Motherfucker + Special Guests
Jackie-O Motherfucker's music draws from a variety of subgenres including various folk musics of the world (American folk and blues, Traditional English folk ballads, etc.), drone, free jazz, psychedelia, and noise rock , and is heavily improvisational in its nature. Because they are a collective, rather than a consistent band or group, the sound of their music can change from performance to performance. Jackie-O Motherfucker began as a duo consisting of multi-instrumentalist Tom Greenwood and saxophonist Nester Bucket. The group has had more than forty members drawn from the U.S. experimental scene, notably Natalie Mering, who now records under Weyes Blood, briefly on bass; the core of the group is founding member Greenwood. The group has had recordings released by Fire Records, Ecstatic Peace, Feeding Tube Records, ATP Recordings and their own U-Sound Archive and has been on several international tours including performances at All Tomorrow's Parties Festivals. In collaboration with the band, Fire Records will be reissuing one of their albums this summer - the first official vinyl reissue of ‘Flags Of The Sacred Harp’ with restored original artwork and a download card featuring unreleased extras and rarities. Presented by Melting Vinyl. Under 16s accompanied by an adult
Soul of the North

Soul of the North

2 Aug 2025 - 2 Aug 2025

Following the sold-out success of King Butchs vintage dance-themed nights, Cum to the Cabaret, hes teamed up with another arty soul from all the way down south to bring you the next new dance night in Leeds! Butch has joined forces with Tavis, producer of Club 80s Vinylthe Bristol-born night celebrating the music scenes of the 1980sto bring you an electrifying evening dedicated to the vibrant sounds and timeless energy of the Northern Soul movement..... This is the perfect night for anyonewhether youve never danced Northern Soul before, just want to get your kicks out on the floor, or youre a decade-long expert. Tavis has been trawling car boot sales across the country, digging out the best vinyl to keep the floor moving all night long. Northern Soul emerged in Northern England and the Midlands in the late 1960s and early 1970s, evolving from the British Mod scene and Black American soul music. Pioneered by Black artists and dancers in clubs such as The Wigan Casino and The Twisted Wheel, Northen Soul music and dance styles were influenced by the funk and soul music brought over by Black U.S. servicemen stationed in the UK during WWII, and later accelerated by the Windrush generation of West Indian migrants. A dance style characterised by quick-stepping, spins, and slides, it is ideal for everyone - from total beginners (i.e. never danced outside of Popworld before) to seasoned soul spinners. Well be high-kicking the evening off with a quick introduction to Northern Soul stepping and spinning by King Butch, offering guests the opportunity to learn the foundational moves before the dancefloor opens for a night of expertly selected hand-spun 45s. They'll be video screenings of vintage northern soul nights from across the North as the backdrop to your night, as well as a tuck shop of all your favourite retro sweets and treats to keep you swinging all night long. In keeping with the spirit of the era, we are encouraging all guest to dress up to the nines in their finest vintage looks think sharp suits, swinging skirts, and a classic style that captures the passion and historic culture of Northern Souls golden age. While dressing up is enthusiastically encouraged, it is by no means compulsory. Whats Included in Your Ticket? Entry to the night with hand-picked vinyl playing from 7:30pm to 2am A one-off show badge and sticker Important Info: -You must be a member, or friend of a member, of Wharf Chambers to attend this event. As such, we cannot promise that mask wearing will be consistent in our venue, and do not feel comfortable advertising our event as a fully-masked event. In the future, if funds and staffing allow, we are open to exploring mask-compulsory shows, however for the moment this is not financially possible.
