These Shining Lives

These Shining Lives

29 Sept 2026 - 3 Oct 2026

These Shining Lives by Melanie Marnich This compelling play tells the true story of four extraordinary women who worked painting watch dials with glow in the dark radium paint at the Radium Dial Company in Illinois, USA during the 1920s and 30s. The company pays and pays well, by the watch, encouraging them to be as efficient as possible while disregarding potential risks. Over the next decade, mysterious problems arise that threaten their health. We are introduced to the courageous Catherine, Pearl, Charlotte and Frances and follow their journey as they fight for justice after discovering that their work has poisoned them. Bonded by years of friendship, our four determinded women decide to fight against the corporation that kept them in the dark about the true risks of working with a radioactive material. These Shining Lives is not just a story of corporate negligence, but of resilience, friendship, and the strength of the human spirit, as the women band together to take on their employer in a landmark legal battle that changes American labour laws forever. We will be holding auditions for this beautiful play in February 26 so watch this space! The Vagina Monologues

The Vagina Monologues

4 Jul 2026 - 4 Jul 2026

The Vagina Monologues have been performed worldwide since 1996. Woodford Players first staged this unique piece of theatre in 2018 and then again in conjunction with Players Theatre Cheadle in 2019. Fast forward to the here and now and the date has been set for a One Night Only performance of this powerful play and that date is Saturday 4th July 2026Playwright, Eve Ensler interviewed over 200 women worldwide and from these interviews The Vagina Monologues was born. Ensler wrote the play to give a voice to experiences that are often silenced, experiences that lurk in the shadows, experiences that make us uncomfortable. The women and girls who have lived these experiences have bravely shared them and as such they deserve the courtesy of our open hearts and minds and willingness to listen. The actresses performing this piece do so in the safe space of great camaraderie and mutual support. They would love you to join them on Sat 4th July in Woodford. You will laugh out loud, probably be very moved, may even feel uncomfortable but hopefully, above all, be inspired to promote the breaking of taboos and damaging silences that sadly continue to prevail. We will be sitting at round tables so that you will be able to relax with your friends and enjoy a drink. If you buy a table for ten guests you will only pay for nine. We have a fabulous raffle lined up and each attendee will receive a small gift. Brian and Ian will be in charge of a well-stocked bar and taking orders for freshly made pizza which will be served during the interval.
Amadeus

Amadeus

29 Apr 2026 - 2 May 2026

Peter Shaffers Amadeus is a reimagining of the lives of Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The play, brought to life with the music of Mozart, is a tale of jealousy and betrayaland perhaps even murder. In the court of the Austrian Emperor Joseph II, Antonio Salieri is the established composer. Enter the greatest musical genius of all time: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Salieri has given himself to God so that he might realise his sole ambition, to be a great composer. Mozart is a foul-mouthed, graceless upstart who possesses that which is beyond Salieris envious grasp: Genius. However, the court of eighteenth-century Vienna does not recognise young Mozarts talents only Antonio Salieri does, and he is tortured by what he hears. He seethes with rage and envy at the genius of this outrageous, flippant prodigy and the sudden awareness of his own mediocrity. Salieri declares war and sets out to destroy the man he sees as Gods instrument on earth. Peter Shaffers award-winning play is a rich, exuberant portrayal of a God-like man among mortals and lives destroyed by uncontrollable jealousy.
