_Crazy Smooth: In My Body_ explores the hardship and heroism of ageing in street dancing, bringing together an intergenerational group of nine dancers to enact and perform a battle against time in this UK premiere. Reflecting hip-hop culture, b-boys/b-girls present a façade of confidence and invincibility as they engage in battles to prove their worth and assert their dominance, with physically demanding and visually impressive choreography alongside projections. Writer Alejanrdo Rodriguez provides a powerful backdrop of personal stories of survival, triumph, and defeat drawn from interviews that he conducted with the dancers, including DKC Freeze, the oldest dancer in the company (born 1965), and Tash (born in 1971). Brought together by an international creative team, including original music by DJ Shash’U, _Crazy Smooth: In My Body_ goes deep into the culture of hip-hop through the eyes, minds and bodies of the multi-generational company. A post-show talk takes place on Thursday 18 July, hosted by Breakin’ Convention founder Jonzi D in conversation with Crazy Smooth and the show's cast. An MC, dancer, spoken word artist and director, Jonzi D has been influential in the development of the UK British hip-hop dance and theatre scene over the last two decades and has supported hundreds of hip-hop dance and rap/poetry artists through professional development projects Open Art Surgery and Back to the Lab. Dancing since 1997, Crazy Smooth is one of Canada’s top street dancers, performers, choreographers, instructors, judges and community leaders.
