JOHN&THOMAS By Andrew Kay
John & Thomas is a romance, the love story of two older men approaching retirement, one ready to face a quieter future, the other unready to give up a life on stage and in heels!
Written before COVID, at the request of actor and drag star Dave Lynn, playwright AK decided to write something for Dave and Jason Sutton who had starred in his previous play Morning Glory which had a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe and was revived at Theatre Royal Brighton in
2022.
Sadly Jason Sutton passed away in early 2024 way before his time. The outpouring of sadness was huge but it also prompted AK to dig out the play he had written for Jason and Dave. It soon became obvious to him that it had a future and after a few phone calls a plan was hatched.
John & Thomas will be performed as a rehearsed reading as part of PierFest 2024 on Brighton Palace Pier. The ticketed event will star Dave Lynn with Allan Cardew, who directed Morning Glory and later took on that role. The production will be directed by theatre royalty Carole Todd and the evening narrated by BBC Radio Sussex star Allison Ferns.
The evenings profits will be administered by the Rainbow Fund to be used to create an annual prize for LGBTQ+ theatre in honour of Jason Sutton.
