Starting the saxophone at the age of 12 after seeing Lisa Simpson duet with Bleeding Gums Murphy, Phil Meadows has been playing for 20 years. He's a two-time Parliamentary Jazz Awards winner and recipient of a London Music Award and the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award. His remarkable journey includes collaborations with NYC jazz trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, European piano trio Phronesis, Femi Temowo, and UK contemporary jazz musicians Laura Jurd and Elliot Galvin. He’s also toured Europe with the highly respected electronic musician and producer Matthew Herbert and completed a residency in the Netherlands with pianist/composer Rogier Telderman. Currently, Meadows holds a longstanding residency at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, where he showcases the best in upcoming UK jazz talent under the ‘Future Movers’ name and tours with ‘Beware of the Bear’, his own band performing music from his first three albums. Alongside his work in small-group jazz, he specialises in cross-genre orchestral collaborations and has been invited to be a guest conductor and arranger with the Grammy-award-winning Metropole Orkest, BBC Concert Orchestra and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He has also been commissioned to re-orchestrate his music for the Royal Northern Sinfonia and has been an improvisation expert for the Southbank Sinfonia and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Meadows is also undertaking a PhD in ‘developing creative practices for orchestral musicians’ due for completion in 2025.
