Bossaphonik is back after the summer break on Friday 6th September, in a change from the usual third Friday of the month slot. It is with enormous excitement that well be welcoming the queen of Frafra gospel herself Florence Adooni and her sensational band 8 piece band coming all the way from Ghana! Florence is part of an extremely vibrant Frafra gospel scene of Northern Ghana, she has been vocalist with Alogte Oho & His Sounds of Joy and also the highly respected kologo hero singer/bandleader Guy One. She herself was raised in Kumasi in the Ashanti region of Ghana which is regarded as the epicentre for highlife music and her band is made up of some of the region's top young highlife musicians. Emanating charm and bursting with talent from everyone involved, the band's music combines the soul of the northern savannah with the sound of the southern rainforest region, effortlessly fusing the best of both cultures to form a unique sound. Florence's music, along with Alogte Oho & His Sounds of Joy and other exceptional Frafra artists music have springboarded into the international scene after being released on the seminal Berlin label, Philophon. From her debut single release, Mam Peela Suure and onwards, her music has generated great acclaim both in Ghana and internationally and she has developed into an artist with a truly worldwide following. She posses an exceptionally sweet delicate but resonantly powerful voice singing in Frafra, Twi and English and she is backed by top highlife musicians on horns, synths, guitar, bass, drums and backing vocals. It makes for one of the best experiences of modern Ghanaian dance music around right now. At this Bossaphonik performance the band will be at the latter stage of a 15-date European tour which includes performances at Shambala Festival in the UK, the New Morning club in Paris and a number of appearances around Scandinavia.
