The Corner Room: Tom Gibbs / Deceptive Lizard
The Corner Room: A unique space hosted by Hope City Church Edinburgh nestled in in the South Gyle Industrial Estate. TOM GIBBS: In Scotland he is a first-call pianist who is known for his sophisticated and contemplative touch and his own bands perform extensively with recent highlight concerts at the Glasgow and Edinburgh Jazz Festivals, and a live recording for BBC Radio 3. His eclectic freelance work includes Stu Brown's Raymond Scott Project, Euan Burton's Occurrences and Thought Fox (winners of Irish Music Network's Young Music-Wide Award). He's also recorded for bands such as Admiral Fallow, Hue and Cry as well as The DT6. DECEPTIVE LIZARD: Although known for his big, yet intimate sound, versatility and creative curiosity, Brodie's fine sensitivity to the fibres of music makes him as much a grounding force on the bass as an independent voice in any ensemble. His music conjures a feeling of concentric shapes, designed for melodic and harmonic explorations, for both the audience and the band members. The well-contoured play between tension and release puts the music in a constant momentum, drawing the listener closer to the music. Brodie's compositions can be as an anthem of a Celtic fairyland, two-feet-on-the-ground ideas combined with an equal portion of mystique and intrigue.
