Sudan Feeds London, a non-profit set up to resolve homelessness and famine in both London and Sudan, brings you a night of music from two incredible artists at All Saints Church, New Cross.
Abdel Gadir Salim is a legend in Sudan, famed for his mastery of the oud and vocal talents. His style is known as "urban song", blending traditional African and Arabic folk music with elements of jazz (including Western instruments like the saxophone). During his long and distinguished career, he has performed worldwide and recorded albums for Sudanese and worldwide audiences.
Hamelmal Abate has been recording albums since the 80s and is well known and critically acclaimed in her homeland of Ethiopia and amongst the diaspora worldwide. Her music combines a modern Ethiopian flavour (with the use of synthesisers) and elements of more traditional styles. In 2017 she won the All Africa Music Award for Best Artist or Group in African Traditional. She is a Goodwill Ambassador for Oxfam's "Rural Women Empowerment Project"
