Belle Époque: Telekinephews, Sloblin, Bojangles, Moonsoup
The lionised underground music spot, once the meeting ground for Scotland’s top cultural exports including Travis, Franz Ferdinand, Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura and The View, closed its portal to the future of the arts some time ago. Gone were the days of freaky live acts in costumes, an incredible array of experimental personalities and the expectation of a night to respect the unexpected. Until now, that is. A new era of alternative gig nights is upon us, Belle Époque — a series of events created by DIY music enthusiasts Telekinephews and their event label Big Nephew Music. These nights aim to revive the soul of eclectic arts music, channeling the energy of the city’s creative roots and reintroducing a beloved hub of the underground scene. Belle Époque follows in the footsteps of a legendary sold-out microfestival hosted by the same crew, continuing their mission to breathe life into independent performance spaces. This event features the glorious return of pet-friendly indie rock musician Moonsoup — once described by a Vic Galloway Scottish DJ as one of the Top 10 artists to watch. Also on the bill: The Bojangles, a 7-piece live jazz-hop band that transgresses language, age, and borders, celebrated by Love Music Hate Racism for exactly that. Scotland’s premier Goblin-Rock humanoids, Sloblin, will deliver their unforgettable brew of spew-metal and cursory rhymes, complete with burping headstands. And to close the night, hosts Telekinephews offer a nostalgic trip through original punk rock anthems, pre-melody collapse. Still listen to everything?... If the music wasn’t enough, Big Nephew Music is pulling out all the stops. Expect full-bodied sound courtesy of a heavyweight custom soundsystem, engineered by Cal Hunter (of Accidental Renovators fame) and local audio wizard Jack McAuley (from the Veto/Wayne Gibbous multiverse). And it wouldn’t be a night like this without the visuals — artist Iris JP May brings “a weird collection of warped curves and blu-tac,” transforming the space into a surreal, immersive experience to match the sonic chaos. Belle Époque isn’t just about bringing back a vibe — it’s about celebrating the DIY ethos, creating an inclusive haven for the artistically minded, and honoring the city’s long-standing role as a hotbed of creative culture. A new golden age of live music is knocking. Are you in? This is an accessible venue, no stairs to the bar.
