10 great places to grab a sandwich in Glasgow
From loaded subs to bubbling focaccia and flavour-packed fillings

Boca
Suite 4, The Cooperage, 674 Pollokshaws Road
Some of the most loaded sandwiches in town. Beef shin is packed with slow-cooked juiciness, paired with sweet peppers, onions, provolone, garlic mayo and gremolata. Rocket and pesto spill out of a chicken cutlet and parma ham option. Sit in the lovely courtyard out front if it’s nice.
Focaccia
47 Bank Street
Not all sandwiches should be consumed at the desk or in the canteen. Focaccia has a bright, spacious corner looking out onto a quiet stretch of the West End. Even if you takeaway, classy details are upheld: parmesan is shaved onto a Parma rucola number before it’s boxed. The aged cheese hits the roof of your mouth, the drizzled olive oil lingers on your lips and the prosciutto just tastes better.
Keek's
Fordneuk Street
Keek’s hides in plain sight in an industrial no-man’s land in Bridgeton, but boy does it serve local businesses well. Big tastes clamber over each other, like pastrami, gherkins, sauerkraut and paprika mayo launching a lunchtime panzer on your palate. Elsewhere, harissa cauliflower, cheesesteaks and banh mi are all given a dose of East End gallus. You can add soup or chips: you know what to choose
Matteo's Club
19 High Street
A recent addition to the lunchtime scene around the foot of High Street, with chunky, unapologetic nods to Italo-American sandwiches and a certain Mr Soprano. Chewy, US sub-style bread is baked in-house, The logical gateway option is coppa ham, salami and mortadella, but the combo of ground Thai chicken, fresh chillis and rice powder has a zing like nothing else. These guys are flexible, adventurous and understand flavour.

Sister Midnight
61 King Street
Bubbly focaccia is the vessel at Sister Midnight. A chicken caesar sarnie is elevated with a zesty dressing and crisp onions, while hot honey does the same to a mortadella and mozzarella situation. The space is sleek, with a trendy magazine shop at the back and outside seats that catch some nice rays.
Sub 126
126 West Regent Street & Unit 3a, 24 Rosyth Road
There are meatball marinara subs, and then there’s this meatball marina sub. Imposingly large, coarse balls of beef with a drawn-out flavour and a kick of black pepper, give way to chewy, doughy sub rolls from local bakery Patisserie Francoise. Other standouts include porchetta and salsa verde, and multiple cold cuts. Also available in Max’s bar on Queen Street.
Also try… Grumpy Pedro’s near Blythswood Square for lunchtime fixes, top-drawer schiacciata from Mootz General Store on Byres Road, Kofi Kade in the Southside for unique Sri Lankan sandwiches and classic combos at Piece’s multiple locations; main picture: Sub 126.
