Civerinos
Multiple locations
With branches across town, Civ’s have been keeping the pizza standards high in Edinburgh since 2014. Enjoy a slice to go on Portobello prom or near the Meadows on Forrest Road; cosy into a retro booth on Hunter Square off the Royal Mile; or try the new thin and crisp New Haven-style at their latest home in Browns Of Leith.
Paesano Pizza
77a George Street
Glasgow’s cult Neapolitan pizzeria brings its high-energy charm to Edinburgh, now with bookings alongside walk-ins. Expect slow-risen dough, quickly blistered in searing ovens, and a tight menu of classic pizzas plus rotating specials: simple, fast and filling, with quality Italian ingredients. It’s a huge space so good with a group.
Patatino
5–21 Grosvenor Street
Set within The Hoxton hotel, this modern trattoria has bright, colourful décor and aims to bring the warmth of sunny southern Italy to Haymarket. The sourdough pizza menu is short but fun. Try Highland bresaola with fior di latte and spinach, or keep it simple and go for a margherita with Scottish mozzarella.
Pizza Geeks
Multiple locations
What began as a street-food favourite has grown into a trio of lively pizzerias (Haymarket, Leith, Easter Road) with a playful, sci-fi twist and a social conscience (check out their Pizza For The People programme). Expect Neapolitan-style dough, slow-proved and blistered in hot ovens, topped with both classic combinations and inventive specials, all served with high-energy, come-as-you-are charm.
Razzo Pizza Napoletana
59 Great Junction Street
Small but mighty, Razzo is the pizza connoisseur's choice. Melanzane with fried aubergine, fior di latte and pecorino is a show-stealer, and the napoletana is hard to beat: crushed San Marzano tomatoes with anchovies, capers, basil and oregano. Delivery drivers buzz in and out, but you won’t care. Now also at Edinburgh Street Food.
San Ciro’s
148 Leith Walk
Napoli rules at San Ciro’s: it’s clear on the menus, the Maradona-themed décor and in the warm chatty welcome. Come for the Neapolitan-style pizzas with classic toppings (or a more out-there special) and share hot arancini or crisp calamari while you wait. On a warm day, bag a table outside and start with a spritz.
Also try… tasty Neapolitan-style pizza from Matto in Newington, Morningside, Shandwick Place or (takeaway only) Meadowbank; Pizza Pilgrims on Rose Street for good pizzas and vibes, Pala in Leith for delicious hot slices, and Novapizza for vegan options.
