From celebrity chats to chilling unsolved mysteries, these are our top podcast picks
Josh Cab plays New York’s prime rapper/landlord/podcaster who is about to celebrate 250 episodes of The Darren Podcast Show Live! (Greenside George Street, 7–15 August, 11.10pm). A heavily requested guest comes along for the ride. What could go wrong? Plenty, probably. In a dark comedy play which examines toxic masculinity and herd mentality, How My Hormonal Imbalances Killed My Friends (Space Symposium Hall, 24–27 August, 10am) features six pals who drop out of uni, plan a heist and, obviously, launch a new hit podcast. The true-crime podcast industry comes under the microscope in Big Dog (Gilded Balloon Patter House, 5–31 August, 6.20pm) when Eve is handed a ghostwriting gig for a major podder in that field. In Badgers (Traverse Theatre, 6–30 August, times vary), podcaster Meles has a dying mother and a career that’s barely showing signs of life (did we mention they’re a podcaster?) but stumbles upon something that might change the whole game.
There are, of course, live recordings of podcasts or a live stage show of a popular ’cast, including the Ewart Brothers with their Fraudcast, Graham Norton and Maria McErlane who will be Wanging On, an exploration of cringe in Chris Forbes’ Stop Watering Dead Flowers, the All Killa No Filla serial killer pod with Kiri Pritchard-McLean and Rachel Fairburn, Welcome To Hell helmed by Daniel Foxx and Dane Buckley, fun chat about parenthood with The Edinburgh Society Of Unapologetically Imperfect Mothers, and chills galore through the spooky portal of Unexplained.
