Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World ★★★★☆
-re.jpg)
An adaptation of Kate Pankhurst’s YA book of the same name, this is a show aimed at families. The story follows Jade, who wanders into an abandoned museum wing on a school trip. With the help of an ensemble of pioneering women, she (alongside the audience) learns the struggles and triumphs of women throughout history. It’s the best kind of learning, through catchy songs and a perfectly-choreographed spectacle. You don’t even realise you’re being fed facts and information.

As Emmeline Pankhurst bursts into a military beat song about ‘deeds not words’, there’s barely a toe not tapping with impromptu cheers and whoops breaking out. When the stomping beat of Frida Kahlo’s number starts up, you can tell that Miranda Cooper (Girls Aloud, Kylie Minogue) has had a hand in the song writing.
Some acting is a little hammy in places which occasionally makes the message feel patronising (or matronising as the case may be). But there’s too much to love in every flashy musical number and the comedic patter of Jane Austen and Mary Anning for it to really affect the overall enjoyment of what already feels like a West End hit.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 29 August, 1.30pm.
