8 great places to eat and drink around Cathcart and Mount Florida
From inventive cocktails and Neapolitan pizzas to Sri Lankan street food and fiery Chinese noodles
Bar Bosie
3 Clarkston Road
Slick new spot from alumni of Henry’s and Chinaski’s that’s a neighbourhood cocktail bar and laid-back foodie destination rolled into one. Grab a Martini and a gilda, or pick and choose from a menu that feels utterly casual but deliberate: a bit Eastern Med, a bit New York. There’s bavette steak with chermoula and a delicious picture-perfect burger, all thick and pink in the middle. Elsewhere, there’s creativity, with specials such as surf clams or Kentucky fried rabbit, as well as bargains like £2.50 oysters accompanying Bloody Marys on Sunday afternoons.
Caesar's Social
2 Clarkston Road
The vibe is slow and gorgeously neighbourhoody at Caesar’s in a way you just don’t get at other pizza places. Neapolitan-ish pizzas come out charred, blackened and blistered with toppings of commendable provenance, be it cheese from Errington in Lanarkshire, sausage from Cobble Lane Cured in London, or their in-house vegan nduja. The ‘eat yer greens’ pizza piles cavolo nero and tarragon-hazelnut pesto onto aged Cora Linn cheese and a San Marzano and roast pepper sauce to glorious effect.
Cafés Salmagundi
1007 Cathcart Road
Café Salmagundi does the elevated brunchy thing without getting too delicate or precious. Food is hearty here: think a roll and chorizo, or a kimchi and cheese toastie. Specials are more decadent, with dishes like buckwheat pancakes, done French-style with emmental, gruyere, bacon and confit leeks.

Ceylon Tea Bar
172 Holmlea Road
You can get a flat white, a pekoe tea or a wattakka curry at this unassuming spot, just as Cathcart gives way to Mount Florida. Sri Lankan street-food classics like crispy fried mutton rolls can be snacked on and ‘hoppers’, little bowl-shaped pancakes with salt, chilli and coconut sambal, brighten up the palate even on the rainiest of Glaswegian afternoons. Look out for their Friday night Sri Lankan curry buffet.
The Real Wan
10 Clincart Road
The Real Wan brings café-style cuisine from China’s Guiyang region to Mount Florida. You’ll get stuff here you won’t find elsewhere: fried prawn dumplings on a bed of tempura or smoky rice with thin slices of wind-dried sausage, red chilli and kidney beans. There’s wide ribbon noodles or pearl rice, defined by lurking heat and Szechuan peppercorns, gloriously sticky and oily from animal fat or chilli condiment.
Also try… perennially popular fried chicken spot Bucks piles ’em every bit as high from its Southside outpost while much-loved Glasgow boozer Clockwork has been given a new lease of life under the stewardship of The Pot Still team. Blink and you’ll miss Essence Mediterranean but their home-style Greek roasts, bakes and gyros are worth keeping your eyes peeled for.
