Blues And Burlesque review: A rich showcase

Burlesque may be the glittering entry point, but Blues And Burlesque quickly proves it has far more in its arsenal than a well-timed glove peel. What begins as a sultry tease unfolds into a richly layered showcase of live music, powerhouse vocals, and performers who know exactly how to command a room.

The real magic happens once the show stretches beyond its burlesque roots. The blues elements land with smoky confidence, the musicianship is tight, and the vocal performances in particular elevate the entire experience from standard fringe fare to something far more memorable. There’s polish here, but also welcome grit, and it’s a combination that keeps the audience locked in.

There are a few small hiccups toward the end. Timing wobbles slightly and the momentum dips for a moment. But crucially, these opening weekend issues never derail what is otherwise an impressively slick and talent-driven production. This show understands that burlesque is just the doorway, not the destination. Come for the tease, stay for the serious musical chops and undeniable stage presence that carry this stylish, crowd-pleasing production home with confidence and flair to spare.

Blues And Burlesque continues at Arthur Arthouse until March 3.
