Crepuscular theatre review: Interrogating the past
A barnstorming multimedia performance that tackles the peculiarities of childhood
Abbey Amber makes her Fringe debut with Crepuscular, a stunning mixed media performance which has a powerful impact. The Adelaide-based artist performs solo for a vulnerable hour of storytelling, taking her audience into a space where the past meets the present and her most delicate childhood memories are unpacked.
The dream-like performance combines theatre, poetry, live music, shadow work and interactive sensory elements to create a space where viewers are invited to lose themselves in the narrative. We feel every emotion as Amber describes memories of her childhood and the uncertainty that comes with change: changes in familial relationships, changes growing up and the transitions in life that help you to discover yourself. Amber is a truly charming storyteller, taking advantage of every inch of the stage and every small moment to deliver a poetic, emotional performance that lingers in the soul long after the lights fade.
Crepuscular is for those who yearn for the past, those navigating transition and those with a deep appreciation for homegrown South Australian creative arts. With select sessions also including an Auslan interpreter, this show supports all audiences and is in every way a highlight debut this Fringe season.
