Hannah Byczkowski: Killer comedy review – Dark fun
The Traitors winner's Fringe debut is teeming with relatable anecdotes, but it’s her most morbid material that packs a punch

This is a solid hour of stand-up from the first winner of The Traitors. To cynics thinking she’s doing this because of that glory, she was already an experienced comedian before her moment of telly fame. And it shows. Byczkowski is a bundle of feel-good energy, a vibe maintained throughout despite us all having to go for a brief stand outside in Bristo Square, thanks to a fire alarm 20 minutes in.
There’s nothing groundbreaking here but it doesn’t really matter. This is relatable comedy, finding humour in bodily changes as you age, jumpers with random writing on them and evocatively drawn family members. Byczkowski possesses a wonderful matey air, quizzing the audience about their tattoos and asking ‘are you still giving blowies?’ Unsurprisingly, due to her telly reputation as a ‘killer’, her Ghost Huns podcast, and her previous work as a palliative care worker, delicious underlying dark humour is where Byczkowski is at her best.
