Hen Hoose Collective announce new single
‘Wipe Out’ is the first release from their forthcoming album

Female and non-binary-led songwriting collective Hen Hoose have announced new single ‘Wipe Out’, releasing on Tuesday 29 July. Described as ‘a shimmering, joy-fuelled anthem that captures the power of togetherness and creative release’, the song is the first release from their upcoming untitled album which was recorded on the Isle Of Lewis and is set for release next year.
Produced by Susan Bear, the track features Tamara Schlesinger (MALKA) on lead vocals, Ray Aggs on violin, and Inge Thomson on various instruments including harp. Speaking of the release, Thomson said: ‘Given the complicated, fractured world we’re living in it’s all too easy to get swept up and sucked under. Creating this song gifted us the opportunity to exist in a happy, optimistic space. Written with the sun sparkling on the sea, we were evoking childlike freedom, playful rhythms and the bliss of affinity. The whole process was a joy.’
Hen Hoose was established by Schlesinger in 2020 as a riposte to inequality within the music industry, and with the aim of lighting a fire under Scotland’s growing pool of diverse talent. When we reviewed their first EP last year, we said: ‘Riches abound, from the sleek, burnished electro pop of “The Lucky Ones” by composer Lucy Parnell and French-Cameroonian singer-songwriter Djana Gabrielle to the stately, soulful synth torch song “Waves”, featuring the intertwined vocals of Belfast-based singer Tanya Mellotte and multi-disciplinary artist Gillian Katungi, aka Paix.'
