She/They comedy review: Putting the world to rights
Bronwyn Farkas and Sophie Jean deliver a sharp, surreal sketch show that skewers modern concerns
From an unhinged Anglo-French sketch about the QVC shopping channel to existential crises during a smoke break, Bronwyn Farkas and Sophie Jean weave a bizarre and completely compelling comedy world between them. The opening sketch is strong as two painfully Gen Z musicians never quite get round to playing a song as they spend ten minutes being mindful, triggered and performing interactive ‘grounding exercises’ with the audience. Everything about these characters is so close to the nose it feels like you already know them.
Farkas and Jean show off their range, transforming into hilariously believable elderly New York women hanging out their underwear, trying to get their heads around transgender rights and polyamory. Every joke is bang on trend without feeling preachy. This is definitely comedy fit for 2026 with reply guys, AI and overbearing capitalism all getting called out. There’s a welcome touch of the surreal to their comedy too such as the QVC presenter who ‘became magnetic, but don’t ask me how or why’. Only the final sketch, about two smokers who don’t smoke, feels like it drags on a little, and the costume and scenery changes aren’t quite polished. The lasting impression is that She/They is hilarious, clever and definitely one to watch.
