A big-name opening in Edinburgh and the end of an era over the sea in Skye. Ailsa Sheldon rounds up the latest culinary comings and goings

New late-night player Le Set has opened in Glasgow’s Princes Square. Si Ferry and Jordan Allan’s big idea is to cover the whole day, from lunch and dinner through cocktails, champagne, DJs and dancing until 1am. Nick Rietz, formerly of Two Fat Ladies and Bilson Eleven, is in the kitchen, with an indulgent menu including miso black cod, lobster French toast, wagyu tacos and millionaire fries with truffle and caviar. If your night doesn’t call for dinner and dancing on the tables, then head south to Langside Social which opened on Pollokshaws Road last month. This update of the traditional social club is built around snooker and pool, with digital darts, karaoke rooms and its own Langside Lager, alongside plant-based food from Antojitos.
Edinburgh’s George Street gains a big new name this month as Ottolenghi makes its Scottish debut. Skye-born Neil John Campbell heads the kitchen after a decade working for the company. Expect the vegetable-heavy, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-influenced cooking that made the Ottolenghi name, plus plenty of Scottish produce, in a bright, airy space. Pat’s Deli is set to add another independent option to Portobello’s increasingly busy food scene. Talking of Skye, it’s the end of an era on the island. Kinloch Lodge has left Macdonald family ownership after more than 50 years. The 18-bedroom hotel, established by Godfrey and Claire Macdonald in 1972, has been bought by the Wickman family, owners of the Cuillin Hills and Flodigarry hotels.
